Re: I was wondering if I could become a programmer
as far as i am aware mit has openly stated that no-one else will be granted access to the game code except for the exsisting staff group... however you can join the coders group and there is some source code available there to play with including the engine files for the game ... there is also the option of making arcade games which can be subnmitted for possible inclusion in the ingame arcade machine.JasonX wrote:ive had a few experiences with C++
Can I be a Artist?
I know a lil of C++ and java script but my true skills lie within lightwave 3d, Rhinceros, Maxon studios and solid works. Some times i use max 3ds and i used to own blender. Anyway i request to be able to build models for this game
Shohaib, I've added you to the Artists Group - if you check the group pages (http://theuniversal.net/artsection.php) you should find that you now have access to more stuff (the model converter, principally, and a bunch of tutorials and things you probably won't need if you're already quite experienced).
As zar said, anyone can build stuff for the game. Whether they get used or not is a different question (that's up to each world owner) but if you're good, we'll probably use as much stuff as you care to do :]
If you can texture too, that's even better (our texture artist is a bit busy with life at the moment, so unskinned models aren't much use right now).
Got any pics of your work you can post?

Being an Artists
Uh yeah i do actually. I just need to ecport them. Is 3d's an acceptable format for the game?
If its got turtorials I will like to join... I am bored and have little to doFooli wrote:Shohaib, I've added you to the Artists Group - if you check the group pages (http://theuniversal.net/artsection.php) you should find that you now have access to more stuff (the model converter, principally, and a bunch of tutorials and things you probably won't need if you're already quite experienced).

Plus I can outsmart my classmates even more in computer stuff... not that I don't already.
i guess the world owner wants it passworded to do some stuff on it
anyway, you can make anything you want for the game, when you want.
thiers no real set rules for making models, and the group isen't exactly a serious thing where your expected to do stuff.
some of the people in group barly know how to model at all.
and unless the list was recently cleared, some of them haven't actually modeled for a long time now or even been seen for a long time.

Shohaib:
I don't know Lightwave at all - is it talking about converting to tris instead of polys, or something? The Model Converter accepts .3ds and .x files, so you might be able to try a different export (or use something like deep exploration to convert from .lwo or whatever).
Minku:
Yeh, I've started adding tutorials, but not to tell you how to model - go find out for yourself on one of the zillions of websites that show you how :) The tutorials are more for how to use the model converter - building cars with rotating wheels, adding turrets, that kind of thing. I'd love to help ya learn how to model but I just don't have the time (and anyway, I just make it up as I go along, so anything I tell ya is almost certainly wrong :)
Zar:
Funny you should say that. Yes, you can make anything, and there's no real pressure to do so (it's just a hobby, innit). At the same time, though, we have about 25 people in the group and no-one seems to contribute very much, so I'll be reviewing the list at some point in the near future.
