OK, so I'm fairly new to A-tractor. Possibly I missed something, but I just can't imagine how anyone manages to get the insanely large amounts of money that the richest of the rich manage to accumilate.
Where does it all come from? Did I miss out on learning the 'money printing' skill?

depends on many things. mainly the island.
on some islands, you can just deposite lots in a high interest bank and watch it accumulate exponentually. one of the easiest way to get rich is to play an island at its beginning. as if your one of the first on an island and set up the first industries, then people will have buy your stuff since yout the only one selling it.
another method is just by working the economy. providing what you see the economy needs or what you hear other players asking for the most will easily make you money.
if you can spend several hours a day in-game, you could just go the easy route of making money by just buying and selling stuff, also known as transferring. basicly you just buy low and sell high. transfering stuff tends to take long periods of time since you only make a few deneri per item, and you need to drive around alot to find a cheap item and then a place that buys it, then start buying and selling. its important to only buy what you know you can sell, because accidently loosing a bit of money can easily set you an hour or more behind due to all the wasted time and money. this is how i always got rich on islands when i had alot of time

if you look at most of toms stuff on imp he buys realy low (so low no one will sell him stuff) he gets a family member to take stuff from one of his buildings and transfers it to another of his buildings. so when you think about it he aint gonna lose much money and everyone else cant make money coz thats what most people are doing anyway

Having a family isn't really the key to being rich. Being able to actually make a business and realising when people are demanding lots of stuff is really important. This is fairly unpredictable so generally I just build whatever I feel like. And of course, actually getting a business may make you more money than going around looking for jobs.
