Client conflict with [Galaxy Full Install - 1.41.9 (8.2Mb)]

Post by Nigel »

Was going to post this in the directorys thread, but it's outreached the current scope of that thread, here is the problem:

On it's own universal works fine. and when I install the world client, it also works fine, but this is where the programs conflict:

Once I type in the directory options in the world client:

F:\Program Files\TheUniversal\Clients | TheUniversal.exe

I get this error when running universal:

Could not connect to galaxy (ID 30100000)
No valid details for this ID

IIt can't find the galaxy.

It is only when I point to TheUniversal.exe that this problem happens, and then I have to do a complete reinstall to fix it, by unistalling both clients again. I can't point to galaxy.exe because that's what caused the other problem with the world client not connecting directly to my planet.

So I guess there are two problems, this one being more severe, and i'm stuck.

1: Either I use both but lose offline planet access, (by pointing to galaxy.exe)
2: Or I get the world client to access my planet but not be connected to the galaxy, with my client also stuck off of the galaxy also (by pointing to TheUniversal.exe

I don't think I can make this any more clear, and it's tricky to put into words - if any world owners could try using the currrent full package (not just a repatched version) and see if the same problems crop up, then maybe it's not just my stupid pc :)

Edit: just figured out how to fix it, but it's still a bit boggling to me why this is happening:

When the Galaxy List menu pops up, goto File >Reset Server Addresses List.

If I were to acess the Worlds client again after this change - the same problem would occure, I would loose the galaxy gateway. there you go, it only took me two or three painful annoying days of installing and uninstalling to work that all out, i'm dead impressed with myself

thats not a major issue far as i can tell.. the error is basically saying that the address of the galaxy server is not in the current data/gateways.lst
if the data/gateways.lst doesnt exist, the client creates a new default one which *definitely* (i.e. ive just rechecked it) includes the galaxy as one of the default servers. soo um.. the best guess i can come up with is somehow you've got a gateways.lst file in theuniversal folder that is old or corrupt in some manner. i imagine deleting it might solve all your problems. if not something even weirder is happening... :}

I think it's something wierder, i'm doing this with a clean install, both clients. It only happens when I point to TheUniversal.exe in the worlds general options. now every time I access the options menu, I have to refresh the gateways list on universal - :?

Can replicate it 10 times out of 10 :P
