Let us play.

After several days of helping out new players on BiplaneWorld, Kynn took a bit of time out to write a list of the most common questions she had been asked…

In no specific order:

How do I move?
With the cursor (arrow) keys. You can run by holding shift.

How do I fire weapons?
Tab

Where do I buy a plane (after entering the world)?
From the Hangar…the grey cave-like building.

How do I buy a plane?
Stand near the building, and press CTRL to open the building menu. Press END to select "purchase", press END to select the vehicle, press PGUP to make the quantity '1', and press END to confirm. The plane automatically goes into your inventory. This is the same method you use to buy any item in game.

How do I get into/out of the vehicle?
After you buy it, use F3 to get in or out of your vehicle. If you have more than one, F3 will scroll through them.

How do I fly my plane?
Use INS/DEL for the throttle, and the arrow keys for direction. Once you have speed, the down arrow will make you take off.

How do I land a plane?
Carefully :) To land, your VSI (vertical speed indicator) must be between -15 and zero.

How do I know where to go? (is there a map?)
Pressing F7 opens the map, and ESC closes it. People on the map are designated by the first 2 letters of their name.

How do I make money?
Fly or drive over to Starport Town. North-west of the Starport (building with the light beam coming out the top) you will find an ore mine. Here you can buy metal ore and do one of two things with it. 1) you can sell it to the Steel Factory (south of the Starport) for profit. 2) you can trade batches of 6 metal ore for Steel at the Steel Factory, and then sell the Steel to the Aircraft Factory (just north-west of the Steel Factory) for even more profit. Note, though, that if the Steel Factory doesn't have enough metal ore to make Steel, you're going to have to stock it with metal ore.

This is all good…but how do I get the buildings to buy/sell?
Here are some basic menu controls that are valid throughout this FAQ. When you're standing near or in a building, pressing CTRL will bring up the building info menu. This menu will have a list of action sub menus to the right of it. Using PGUP and PGDN will scroll through these sub menus. Pressing END will open whichever of them is highlighted. Pressing HOME will go back to the previous menu. The only other menu commands you really need are PGUP and PGDN to ncrease/decrease a quantity when you're buying (holding shift will make the numbers inc/dec faster), and END is used to confirm actions. Pressing ESC will close open menus.

Note though, that if you press CTRL more than once, other menus not related to that building will pop up instead…try it and see just what is available to you. Interacting with them is the same as the building menu. You can also access these menus by clicking the mouse on the icons at the top left of your screen.

Is this all there is to this game/are there other planets?
BiplaneWorld is not all there is to The Universal. There are many other worlds waiting to be explored, and each is unique. By having many worlds with many different styles of play (some are team combat, some are pure economy, some are economy and combat etc) each player can find the play style that suits them best.

How do I get to other planets?
The easiest and fastest way to do this is the buy an Infinite Improbability Drive from the Space Station beside BiplaneWorld. This drive will cost you 15 credits (which luckily happens to be the maximum you can get on BiplaneWorld). If you have exchanged your money (called Sheckles) for credits, type .launch to leave the world and fly up to the Space Station. When you reach it press F10 to dock, and follow the menus. Once you have this drive, you just click on it (while in space) and type in the name of the planet you'd like to visit.

Ok, how do I get credits?
Once you've earned your fortune (or at least 150 sheckles), go to the spaceport on the world and enter it (via the menu). F1 takes you to the Galactic Exchange and here you can trade sheckles for credits.

How do I leave the game?
Type .launch to leave the planet and enter orbit. Hit F12 to close the game (you'll be asked to confirm and then hit F12 again).

How do I use the teleport?
You use the teleport just like any other building - go up to it, press CTRL, and hit END to select "use teleport". On Biplaneworld you need at least 5 kudos to use the teleport.

What's kudos?
Look it up :) No, seriously: kudos is just one way of rewarding players for various actions. Think of it as a combination of score and reputation. On Biplaneworld you get kudos for killing other players and constructing buildings.

I don't like my character; can I make a new one?
No. Creating a new character actually creates a "multi character" (known as a "multi" in game), and that will make you unable to play.

Can I jump out of my plane?
Not at this time, no. But rumour has it that the ability to parachute is work in progress.

Where do I learn a skill so I can get a job?
Jobs aren't necessary on BiplaneWorld. On the economy worlds, you would learn the skill at a school. You access schools just like any other buildings (with CTRL etc) and buy courses just like any other item.

How long until the hovercraft store has stock?
It should have loads of stock - if it doesn't speak to an Op or higher when you see one.

Can I be someone other than the Druid?
Nope - not on this world.

Can you teleport me?
No, but if you get properly stuck (unlikely, but possible) ask an Op to help you out.

What other vehicles can I buy?
There are a variety of planes/vehicles available on the mainland. Half the fun is getting rich enough to buy them and see what they are.

If I crash, will I die?
Not permanently :) You should automatically respawn. If you don't, try F11 or relogging.

How do I make the chat window larger?
F2 will make it larger and then F2 again will make it normal size.

How do I talk to only one person?
Quite easily actually: make sure you have no menus open (building menus, etc). Find the person's name in the player list (top right corner of the screen). Press PGUP or PGDN until their name is highlighted. Any text you start with a / will go only to that person (and show up in yellowish green). If you don't put the / your chat goes to every one like usual. On team-based worlds like Battlezone, \ talks to your team members only.

How can I talk in red text?
You can't - it's an admin only feature.

What does it mean if someone was flogged?
It means an admin was having fun. Flogging does nothing other than print the message on the screen.

Good luck!
Kynn
