World Installation

A quick question here. In the downloads page it says to download the world installer to TheUniversal\Clients. That is what I've done but there's constantly talk of it being in the same folder of the game client. Now is this TheUniversal folder or TheUniversal\Clients?
If it is TheUniversal\Clients then why is it that i have to change the general options settings to TheUniversal.exe so that it will load? If i redirect it to TheUniversal folder, it says unregistered world must be in same folder.

don't know why its telling you anything about a client being in the same dir.
i have several installed unregistered worlds here that have no clients in there directories anywhere.
but generally speaking, the server should be installed in (whatever)\The Universal, and the client should be in a Clients folder in the TheUniversal dir.
as for having to change something to make it work properly....its TU. thats normal
i can't imagine a server would work being installed in the exact same folder as the client since they both have the same dir structure and same file names, but different data in those files.

Hmm... Having the well known Unable to launch error now.
I'll post some screen shots and the files content.

I've never set up a world server like this, but when I get "Unable to launch", I wouldn't think that has anything to do with port forwarding. So, I'd check my local configuration. Anyway, are you running this on Windows or another OS?
Edit: oh, I see .exe, so Windows. Not sure then, I don't know of any debugging tools for Windows :/

Re-did everything again, still nothing. Anyone got some suggestions?

Unable to launch just means the client doesn't know where the server is (and vice-versa). Should be easily fixed by editing the relevant field in the server options dialogue, or just installing the world to the same directory the client is in.

Okay, if i put 'UniversalWorld' in the clients folder it wont pick it up in either 'TheUniversal.exe' or 'Galaxy.exe' and claim a planet while im running those. Now, if i place 'UniversalWorld' in C:ProgramFiles:TheUniversal then it needs libcurl.dll which im guessing even if i moved it from the clients folder, wouldn't do much to it, remember it didnt do anything before which worked.
Have i got this completely wrong or does 'UniversalWorld' go in the main TheUniversal directory like the message says in the chat box? "It says about it needing to go with galaxy.exe".

Directory should be
Program Files\TheUniversal\UniversalWorld.exe
Program Files\TheUniversal\Galaxy.exe
Program Files\TheUniversal\Client\TheUniversal.exe
If theres no libcurl etc in your Program Files\TheUniversal folder, then i suggest you havent run the full world installer yet. Try..
http://theuniversaldownloads.com/Unregi ... ll0520.exe
(This is kept in the 'world creation' section of the page)
The world patches that are on the downloads page are .exe only patches that need to be applied on top of the main installers.

Yea i made the same mistake Raaju did, i just downloaded the patch without thinking if I'd installed the WorldServer since my re-install of windows. I've done that but get the common Unable to launch error now, any suggestions? Port was set to 0 but changed it to what the client seems to use now.

I don't know whether this is off topic or not, but I ask it here. Is it possible to name a planet, but not owning it as a world, just to have it as a target for the infimp drive.

Yea it is, when you set up your planet, you can call it something. Then while the world software is open, use TU and crash into an Unknown Planet or inactive non-registered one. It'll replace it with the planet name

I had a look at how other programs should be set up using my router and found something i never realised before. With my netgear router, I first need to add the service, then allow those service under the firewall rules. This needs to be done for both inbound and outbound, the service will be listed with the drop down menu for the ports you specified.
That might fix it for some people, but for me, it didn't work. This was re-done by scratch and after learning more about routers work than before and how to connect them up successfully for other programs. I still get the "unable to launch/connect" error when i open the game and select "your world" from the menu.
Also, trying to land onto the marked planet will not connect, just hang at the landing until a message pops up saying unable to connect. This i believe, means it is outside my control. I've done everything how it should be, refering to this topic so i didn't get mixed up like last time and connecting a few other gaming and voice servers up correctly.
So i guess it just simply will not work for some of us. It's either the TheUniversal or the Unregistered World Server. Otherwise, it may be simply something about ISPs only allowing certain communication through their exchanges in places. Now i wouldn't understand why they would do this and not other exchanges, but hell, they might have monkeys working for them.
So yea, looks like I won't be able to run a world until someone comes up with a fix which works for me. To those of you who've tried everything on the guides on these forums, check how your router works with the port forwarding. I found mine i had to first make the exception in the services tab, which made the TU service. Then i went into port forwarding/firewall rules and selected the tuservice from the drop down list with the other various services which came installed on the router. Make sure you do it UDP, I defined 8025 for my port which was free of any other program and hence should have enabled it to work. Sadly it didn't, even with the externalip addition and reroute.txt.
If none of those work, then your probably suffering the same problems I am and we shall just have to wait and see if anything improves.
