How Secure is Planet Hosting?

I am about to set up connection to my planet and I was curious to know if I am opening my home router up to security threats/viruses. If someone got on the game just to cause trouble would it be hard for them to do any damage? The reason I ask is because it seems that I have to input stuff such as IP and port numbers which seems like stuff that hackers like.

i can't say i really know. but if the only port you have open is the wolds port then chances are not much can be done by a hacker.
if they tried to access your pc on the port the world server uses, it would try to pick up the connection. since it wouldn't be from a client, no conenction would be made and the pwerson couldn't really get anywhere.

Ok cool. that makes me feel a little more comfortable about trying it. I do have some questions about connecting my world though. I use the same router as I saw in the tutorial however, when I set the port to 0 it says I cannot set start and end to 0. Also I read that if I assign the port an number it should be above 2000. Do all computer really have that many or is it just a number that it uses? When adding the world in the gateways screen it asks for an IP, is that my computers IP or the networks external IP?

port 0 means the world will use a random port. in order to forward a port for the world to use, you first need to set the world to use a specific port by editing the PORT= line in the ServerConfig file and then either typing *reloadconfig ingame or manually closing and restarting the server program.
its recommended to use port #s over 2000 because many windows programs use port #s below 2000. yes, all PCs have all ports, theres 65535 available ports i think. After setting a port (for example, zoric uses port 7500) go into the router and put the port in both the To and From area.
the gateway stuff can be ignored, its from old stuff that no longer in use.
