Hi, This is about noobs.
First off, i'd like to say that some of the staff that have been making multi's to pretend to be noobs and see how the players of this game are to the newbies. These reports (that i've heard) are not good, they say that most players won't put in the time or effort to help noobs, which isn't good since the game needs new players constantly or the worlds will all perish. I think that WE (yes that includes me) need to do more to help the newbs that come, the older players often dont help as much as they should (once again that includes me).
The older experienced RICH players and ALL BUSINESS OWNERS Should help newbs because, without new players comeing in a buying your stock, you won't be rich, or be able to afford a business... Your wealth is in the hands of these newbs. Places like Reine Blanche where u work as a team you can use your new player to help the team, get a skill, and help out. I personnally Gave away my farms to newbs, because if i don't need them, instead of waste money and destroy something other less privalidged players can't afford, why not give them it, let them make money (which from farms isn't loads, but its sure as hell a start for a newb) from it. While you make the big bucks, and pass Your older buildings onto the new players so they can make money and in the end be kinda rich themselfs so they can help out your team on the path to glory.
What i'm saying is, Help Newbs, for the 30 minutes u spend getting them started you could be not only helping yourself in the long run, but saving the game as a whole
The reason i posted this though is because ATM the 'how to play guide' isn't available (could mit or someone fix that if possible) So you have to help out even more
Noob help
good call tom. right now, most people new to the game seem to be getting help from players who are quite new to the game themselves, which isn't really going to benefit them too much.
i think more than "help" though (and hopefully tutorial planets, better guides, etcetera in the new version will facillitate not needing to help people out as much) is a bit different than the general regard people hold new players in...which isn't good.
granted in fairness to the current 20-someodd regulars, i know it's a bit tough devoting any time or effort into hyperactive five year olds that are often the new players to the game in recent months, but when we do get more folks who are a bit cluey, they get sort of disregarded as well.
heck, even if we all just toss a friendly "welcome back" to new names we recognize, it's creating a friendly atmosphere folks will wanna return to. most friends i've referred to the game say the only people talking to them were either two years old and annoyingly condecending, could barely compose a sentence in english (and-credit to whomever that is- they're still trying to help!), etcetera. they generally don't come back after that first or second experience*. not to sound overly agist here, there's plenty of very focused, younger players... unit, who hasn't been around for a bit now, is a prime example of a younger player who's really coherent and has a great understanding of the game. perhaps instead of younger players we should say "players that aren't as adept at explaining the fundamentals of a game" or "players that aren't very good at expressing themselves in the written word" or my favorite "players that only want to help you get rid of your starting money"
my own experience was that i generally got ignored by the stronger players without so much as a hello. the middle tier, who are still relatively new themselves, were helpful only in giving me instructions that would benefit them....one player even tried to rip me off :]
i understand a certain amount of "paying ones dues"...heck go into any team fps game and unless your kill ratio is huge, you're regarded as trivial. still, we kinda revolve around chat and community, so praps we should hold ourselves to higher, even if still mediocre, standards**
heck, if a new player is indeed being a newbie in behavior, i'd think you're entitled to ignore them. the ones that make the most noise are just there to shout a lot and not play anyway. i guess the idea is that we can't lose the diamonds in the proverbial rough in the process.

one potentially good player that i think got turned off by having only these sorts talking to him was kikkoman. haven't seen him around since zion save for once. :/
** btw current cool new player to watch out for: lepidus. from day one he got it, and he's kickin' some serious ass on team two in reine.
