It's not the server's fault...some people have a newly released cloaking device

As I've said on countless occasions... 90% of the stuff that happens in space is peer to peer. There is no server, except for trading and maintaining the record of your galaxy character. Combat and space chat are peer to peer, which means problems with invisibility etc depend entirely on the mix of ISPs and networks and routers etc in play at any given time. Which makes it extremely hard to debug, though we're trying.

Yes, we could change it and run all combat etc on a client-server basis. But then we'd have to charge you all to play, because tracking real-time combat and movement in that way would require more bandwidth and server capacity than we can provide for "free" right now.

...addendum...

Actually the most useful thing you can do is to help us work out just what's causing the problem in the first place. When we looked at your space issue Zach we couldn't get a ping from your IP, which means you're being firewalled in some way. You said there was no firewall. Well there is cos we can't see you :)

More detail about your system and network config might provide a clue... it's not really a "bug" as such but we do need players with this problem to be rigorous about helping us solve it in a "bug reporting" kinda way. Because as problems go it is rather irritating.

I don't think they could live off that, let alone afford all the bandwidth needed XD

they could do that, but then, all world owners could just stop owning worlds and they'd make no money AND there'd only be a few worlds.
