Questions about trees:

The newish map editor allows to plant trees.

How do you select (1 through 8 I believe) the tree type?

Can I give trees a collision so people have to walk/drive around them as trees not as buildings?

First question, don't know: haven't used the editor.

Second question: no. At the moment, the only way to have collidable trees is to add them as buildings (ornamentals, usually, but background models might also work)

Ive come up with the idea to have some trees collidable and others not.

like, use plantforest to plant dense patches of smaller trees and shrubs on top of a surface thats set to 'mud' so when you walk through the shrubs you arent blocked by a collision, but its noticably slower to walk through. is it possible to rig a sound to a surface type? cause then youd be able to upload a sound like youre walking through dense brush. and that would be really cool!

larger trees I was thining about adding as a background model or an ornamental building. so you could stand on top of them like a ninja or something.

But the biggest problem Ive encountered with collidable trees is that they're hard to walk around. meaning, you cant get near the trunk if youre on the ground, you will hit an invisable wall. I'm guessing it has something to do with how the models are made. Is the 'welcom to zion' sign collidable? if so, its the only model ive seen that you can walk "under" I'd like to see (or eventually make) trees that you can walk underneath the canopy but still collide with the trunks and canopy tops. and if possible, maybe even a low branch that you can stand on. really ninja like!

so is this possible?

Yes, it's possible, though it depends on the collision mode being used. I believe Zion uses collision mode 7, which is good if you want people to be able to stand on stuff and does allow you to walk under the welcome sign. Mode 5 is the most accurate, and I think that's what I used to create collidable trees last time I tried.

Best thing to do is have a play and see what works for you. It ought to be possible to walk under the branches without colliding with them, but bang into the trunk in a reasonably accurate way. However, collisions aren't the game's strongest point at the moment, so it can take a bit of fiddling about and having to compromise sometimes.

I went back to zion and realized the model itself isnt collidable, but its set overtop of walls which are. Ill experament with the different collision modes to see which one allows one to walk underneath branches best, thanks.
