Star Gates

Post by Kona123 »

Well, iv heard a lot of people complain about stargates being to small, and I think so to. Its very easy to fly right by them, and sometimes they are hard to see, but if they were like EVEs stargates, then they would be very easy to see and almost inpossible to miss. The ones in EE look like very big gate/tunnle things.

Yeah, stargates should stay as they are - they're great this way.

The only thing with auto pilot is that it stops completly to turn, and sometimes in turns very slowly.

I the sandgroper have not got auto pilot. I may get one some day.

Kona123 my advice to you is learn to use the blue triangle, distance to object, time to object and the cross hairs.

I know, I do all that, its just kinda annoying, because my screen is dark and I cant see it, so then I pass it, or I go beside it or something.

Adjust your monitor's brightness setting.

This will depend on what type of monitor he has. I have used one of the new monitors and you could not ajust the brightness setting. The screen was always dark and very hard to see anything in space. If he is using one of these new monitors then I know were he's coming from.

Part of the problem is that I have a staggeringly bright Dell 24 inch LCD, so what looks invisible to some people (especially if you're using an oldish CRT monitor) actually looks quite bright to me. I'll come up with something a bit brighter for the stargate. And maybe one day mit'll give us a gamma control..

ahh, nevermind then, thats what i get for not playing space :P
i was thinking that it was hard for people to find them because it was a sprite ring.

so...why not just make the model larger? :P
anybody could do this client side aswell to make it easier for them to see.

Because whenever I send mit an updated model he always "forgets" to include it in the install :)

A lot of space stuff is scaled really strangely (another thing to fix on the long-term to-do list). When I make stuff I guestimate the size relatiive to other stuff, but then mit just changes it cos for some reason he decided that Things Are Smaller In Space. The stargate is currently 17ft high. The space station model is actually a lot smaller than most of the ships that dock in it. It makes little sense, so blame mit and whiskey :)

Anyway, I think the stargate could be a bit bigger, and the texture a bit brighter. Ideally, as I've said before, it'd have some sort of funky plasma effect glowing in the middle. But it's not really that hard to find: with an autopilot, you end up a few seconds travel from it, and all you have to do is move forwards..
