another feature request... :)

Post by killkill »

well, being that everyone is putting up their requests to "improve" the game (Kona being the biggest contributer), i would like to put up my thoughts so that they may get counted (also because i cant post new topics on the feature request forum) (Also, when will we have a full weapons ban in Fed systems? I think it's way over due ny now.).

My first feature request is better ship models. Although I know that Fooli has been "hard" at work with these models, and is currently working on some of them. I would just like better detailed ships, with more variety. For example, there could be three different "paths" to choose from on a space career. One would be the pirate occupation, another the trader occupation, and a third a policing occupation. In order to do this though, many ships would have to be modeled. First, the reason being that each path would probably have five ships levels to build up to, besides the 1 or 2 starter ships (one would get u started on the trader path the other would get u on a pirate or policing occupations). To increase variety, the stats of each level ship would change, for example the 3rd level pirate ships could either be geared more to fighting or have more cargo space instead. in total, there would about 31-32 ships from players to choose from, which would require a lot of time spent to build them.

Second, we in a way need guild and possibaly player stations. Guild stations would be where guild members can socialize and just chill, or discuss battle strategies, etc. This could make the player guild making process more official, because in order to have an official guild you would need to control a space station. Player owned space stations would be first more of a garage, and could also be where the player "parks" their ship at the end of their day.

Last, although this would also probably take a lot of time, an overall improvement of the game's graphics. The world's i have to say, are fun to play. But the game should add things like round surfaces, animated buildings, and maybe even ones with interiors. This would make playing it even more fun, and good to the eye.

I know that all of these requests would be hard to accomplish especially because TU is a "for fun" type of thing where the Dev team works on it in it's spare time. Also TU is a great game the way it is, and even if u dont or cant implement these requests, TU will still be a great game, although these requests would make the game better.

That is all i have to say on my wanted requests, thnx for listening.

-Edit-
We should probably also keep a close eye on the TU wiki, and make sure that it has correct information and all of that stuff. It is pretty good, but the ship stats should also include the price of it.

I'm against better graphics, unless they can be turned off.
I don't want to have to quit because my PC can no longer run the game, something which has also happened at another game I played.

And about the wiki: if you want to see something changed, you can just do it yourself. That's why it's a wiki - anyone can contribute.

No disagreement there...why stop with 32? Where's yer ambition? How about 300 :] But yes, it's just the time. We've got, er, 15 at the moment I think. I'll aim for 16 first. I'm not sure about restricting ships to occupations and so on - I'd rather just see a whole bunch of stuff people can choose from, and use how they will. But it's all academic until we have more models. Or modellers. From time to time we get people posting saying they'd like to make stuff, and either we never hear from them again, or they're not as good as me (which is to say, not as good as "not very good at all"). One day I'll get my arse in gear and do some publicity around the 3d modelling communities.
killkill wrote:Second, we in a way need guild and possibaly player stations.
Mmm. Nice idea but probably too difficult to do easily. It'd be a lot simpler, I'd have thought, to enable people to dock at stations (already done) and then have a way for people to create private rooms or something in that station. Work has started (and then stopped) on a full 3d station interior, and one day that might pick up again. But to be honest, all this would be is a very complicated and time-consuming version of what you have now: private and guild chat channels. Very nice and that, but... it's that time thing again.
killkill wrote:Last, although this would also probably take a lot of time, an overall improvement of the game's graphics.
Again, no disagreement: the better, the better. Animated buildings: already done. There aren't many because I haven't made many (one or two other people have, but overall there aren't a lot). Why? Time, perhaps. For a basic economy game they just consume resources without adding any value: when we have more interactivity with buildings (so they animate while producing, for example) maybe there'll be more movement. Interiors? Again, work started on that.. and then stopped. Time, time time. Round surfaces? Erm :]
VDZ wrote:I don't want to have to quit because my PC can no longer run the game
Well... yes, always give the option to turn stuff off if possible (once again, time...). However, it's a bit unrealistic to expect the game to run as well today on the same hardware as it did when mit released the first version about 6 years ago. Maybe we should do a poll, but I suspect most people are running the game on current, or 2-3 year old PCs (like Mit, in fact). At some point you just have to accept that things will move on. We can never compete with cutting edge games (with cutting edge budgets) but most players expect a certain amount of glitz, and as graphics move forward, that amount naturally increases. We're pretty low-end really. Which game was it, btw?

VDZ, though i know wat im saying might be extreme, if TU is pushing ur PC's limits (highly unlikely) it's probably time 4 a new PC. I just want something a little better.

I would contribute to it, but the ship prices is something i seriously dont know. i tried to add to it a couple of times too.

my idea or thought was more like that ships that where suited for that kind of job, although they can use any ship. we could also use player garages as said b4 to store diff. ships.

32 is a base # that we could build off of. I thought anymore would be a lot (although 32 itself seems like a lot)

i have a world in development (named Ciroz) that will provide much better graphics and detail. granted that the games graphics engine can handle it, i'm going to shove as much realistic detail into it as possible.

details such as grass and plants that wave as if in a gentle breeze, realistic looking buildings, street signs and other similer things, modern vehicles, etc.

as fooli said though, the main limiter is time. its not easy to make over 150 models and textures, nor can it be done fast. not to mention all the errors that will be made in the process and all the models that wont be good enough and thus not used on the world.

but, when its completed, zoric will also use the new models, textures, etc.

Buying a decent PC is easy if you've got a good job. I don't. I don't earn enough money to be able to buy a decent PC, and my dad won't buy one (even though this one is at least 5 years old).

And the game was Yu-Gi-Oh! Online. Best thing about it was its payment system: How much you pay depends on how much you play.

not really, you can get a pretty decent intel core 2 duo pc for much less.
if you build it yourself, for less then $500 even, since all you would need is a motherboard, cpu, and ram.

Oh yes! Then I'll be able to get it in a year, if I spend NO MONEY AT ALL. That's great! [/sarcasm]

Heh, yeh, and stuff's a lot more expensive over here. $500 is only about £250 in UK terms, which wouldn't buy you much more than an email checking machine. Maybe $1000 would get you a dual core PC worth having.

VDZ, I've got a few spare bits and pieces just lying around, if you ever wanted some cheap upgrades. Cheap, as in maybe donate a bit to the game for the postage, and you can have 'em.

Is there any way to donate without using PayPal? I'm not 18 yet (you need to be 18 to have a PayPal account)...
