before i start with my ideas i wanted to say that this is by far the best computer game i have played. i just cant stop playing it for hours at a time. with that said i wanted to share a couple of ideas of things that might be interesting in the game.
1) a "kloaking" device that would allow pirates to ambush traders, or allow police to ambush pirates, etc. just something that would prevent you from being able to see them coming
2)some new ship systems that would allow you to upgrade your armour, ion drive, radar, a way to change configuration of weapons on your ship(instead of having to use missiles and lasers, maybe 2 lasers and no missiles, etc.)
3) maybe a "jobs" feature at the spacestations that would allow you to earn credits for rendering "services" such as escorting trade ships, providing specific cargo to a specified spacestation(s)
just a couple of ideas for the game

Other Possible space additions:
1.Headlights-having trouble seeing the space station on the dark side of a planet? Not anymore! With the new Omnibright 3000 you have enough light to put the nearest sun to shame...
2.telescoping view-be able to spot and correctly aim at a nav target from up to 100 lightminutes away...or feel like your right in the action of a nearby space battle while maintaining a safe distance...

I like that Cloaking device idea. However, potential abuse (including by me) could make it less inviting, unless...
...the idea works mildly in reverse.
Instead of activating it at any time, having it auto activate when you enter system, if you set it up like so. This way, legit traders and some sneaky pirates, can slip in, look around, and bail in time or get close to destination. Maybe after a lil while, the Cloak fails due to massive ionization, or something.
Or using same cause of failure be the limitation on the Activate At Any Time version...while under impulse, you can use the cloaking device as long as red alert isn't active first. Go faster, and Ion's dispell the shield.
This way, traders and pirates can use it like a defense, and will need to keep an eye out. Also, the game would keep the cloaked person targeted, but no reticle would show up in view for people to be located with. A pirate would need to slide up to where the cloaked ship was, and fire off lasers, trying to splash off shields to dispell the cloak. After a set amount of time, you lose target even. Sorry, they're gone.
Trust me, this method can get tense! I've played submarine games, and many stealth games. You can only move so fast, and one false screw up, and the sharks are all over you.
Sadly, this second method would be hell on programming. So I'm sure the developers would love any help.
