i thought the cargo event went well i wish more players would have joined us though wish we could have a team death match (no bounties win or lose) and we have set teams any player killing a team mate gets a -5 kills just a lame idea but sounds kinda fun

i agree with the idea of a team death match. I reckon it might work quite well if there was something like : 1 team starts in the spacestation on one planet, one team starts in the spacestation on another, everyone launches off simultaneously and tries to kill members of the opposite team.. Anyone who dies returns to their 'team' station and waits until the fight is over. (I could add some code to automate this, and add spectator mode from within the station perhaps) -Winning team being the last one with any members left.
Would be suitably expandable too - no reason we couldnt have 5 teams all launching off from their respective stations.
Team battles in space could be strategically interesting.. maybe one team will choose to focus on one member of the opposite team at a time, or break into 2 groups, or whatever.. i'd look forward to seeing that :]

This was kinda my original thoughts for fight nights, but over 3 systems, in a backgammon kind of way.
Two teams start from station in their sys, the idea being to get as many of your team into the oppositions station as poss.
This leaves scope for a lot of strategy, meaning the same event could be repeated a few times, giving your team a chance to learn and adapt each time.
But for now we need to encourage more people to come along, so im trying to keep things relatively simple.
A space mining/fighting idea is being formulated at the moment, we've done a trial run and it works good.
I'll post on it soon.
If people interested could post on it and give preffered times it would be helpful for me in organising.

In order to have team idea really work the players involved would have to be on a level playingfield...which probably means that the ships involved should be temporarily standardized...or else only the top players would rack up any kills and everyone else spends most of their time incapacitated by enemy fire...also means those who haven't yet got above IP shuttle or cargo ship will be more enticed into joining...just for a chance to get into a better (or at least different) ship for awhile...
might require that a new breed of fight-night ships will have to be created...

i like the idea of all playes having the same ship like you said elites would show up and own smaller ships and im sure if we all was in the same every fight night more peeps would show up and new players would get a chance to test drive different ships each fight night but im sure for us to have the same ship every fight night would be a pain for Mit and other staff........ still a good idea
Why just a Fight...we have ships that tear ass across the stars...
Why not a race too? Or a version of Football? Hide and Seek?
Race: A ships of same type start at one point in a space system....like M383. They then all race to cross the finish line, the stargate. First one through, wins.
Football: Sort of more a "Smear the Queer" game. A few players escort a slow ship, like the Cargo Vessle. The other teammates protect him from oncoming enemies. When the Cargo ship successfully docks with the spacestation at the end of the race, the defending team wins. If the cargo ship is blown up, the attacking team wins.
The defense team then becomes the attackers, and the attackers become the defenders.
One rule is you can't InfImp, Finite Drive, etc. If you, as an attacker or defender get dropped at a spacestation behind the fight, fly and catch up. If you get dropped in ahead of the fight, great. Try and cut em off.
Hide and Seek: One ship jumps out to a random system. Now, of course, with the Find command, it'd be hard to stop people from using this...but most newbies don't know it. Let them star hop and find the person hiding.

I was thinking something like the hovership vehicle on biplaneworld...when you started or joined a race you could access it temporarily whether or not you actually owned the item version...when the race was over (or failed to start) you were returned back to druid character...might not be a that big leap to do something similar with ships in space.
i like the idea of hide and seek but i think id go better if the player hiding landed on a planet and changed his/her ingame name say ( Im it ) would be my name and if players dont know who is hiding then they wont know who to !find from space..... i think this could be done simple and done over and over until new ideas pop up
wouldn't be much point to a game of hide and seek if you didn't know who all was hiding. you'd be going to planet to planet 'finding' every player online on each and every running planet in the galaxy even if they weren't taking part in the game. you'd not know who to 'find'
on a side note, a game of hide and seek on a planet would be more logical.
you can disable the map, disable spec mode, force first person view or a very close camera, and force a short drawdistance. if the world was hilly and filled with treesand other decorations, that hid the floating playername, then it'd truely be a game of hide and seek. you wouldn't know where the players were, but the ones taking part would actually be findable.
