ok, i did now. :]
i dont really wanna get into having to deal with cheques (sounds way too much like a real job :] ) ... tho i imagine theres ways you can send cheques to paypal and then donate from the fund you've created with the cheques. (Correct me if im wrong).

Regarding world hosting in general : a large part of the work ive done on the game in the last couple of months (which you won't notice much) has been to do with getting the servers in a state where they can be more easily remotely hosted and accessed - to a 'commercial' standard. This includes a worldserver management tool that would allow willing 24/7 hosts to create and run multiple worlds easily for other people - the idea being that this would allow us to build a system a bit like that used for webhosting, where resellers and providers combine to create a larger network of hosted spaces. The prices charged for the hosting (if any) would then be in the hands of the individual hosts, with 'TheUniversal' handling the transactions, setup and allocation of hosting in a reliable and 'professional' way. (For instance.. recent gal server updates have included lots of stuff to do with tracking activity of worlds, so that, if a world was hosted commercially we could guarantee a certain level of uptime, etc)

Theoretically.

Anyway, the point of all this is that I'm working towards a system that will allow people who happen to have world hosting facilities available to easily make those facilities available to those people who don't.

How it all pans out (if at all) does depend a fair bit on the success of the game overall, and on how much spare time and energy i get to implement stuff (probably very little) - but thats kinda the plan..

Mit, if it isnt too much to ask, can u translate that into english? i might think of doing some kind of a world building to kill time instead of getting drunk on non-alcoholic beer.

"I've started work on a new version of the world server that can run multiple worlds at the same time, as well as some useful server administration tools - much like you'd find in a "proper" online game. This is important because it will make it much easier for people with lots of bandwidth to host worlds for other players"

"When I say "people with lots of bandwidth" I don't just mean players, necessarily. Our long-term plans have always included the possibility of making the game hostable by a company, such as an ISP. We're not definitely going to do this, but in theory, we (the staff) could establish relationships with "trusted" providers of hosting services, who would charge $some a month to host a world. We could act as an intermediary between players and the hosting provider: so basically you'd just choose whichever hosting package you wanted, and we'd handle the rest."

Most importantly though, this won't affect your ability to design and host your own world, whether we do this or not. What you'll see to start with is (maybe) a few of our long-term, experienced world owners - the ones with big fat cable internet pipes in the big fat US of A, most likely - offering to host worlds for other players (this happens already but the new tools will make it lots easier). That's good if you don't have a lot of bandwidth at home, if your PC is in the bedroom and you can't leave it on 24x7, etc etc. But you'll still be able to design and host your own world if you want.

i dont know if its just me, but im too stupid to understand it. i kept rereading it for an hour to try and get it (dont worry fooli, it's not u). is it about a bandwith and a company getting a world but paying monthly to host it?
