feature request

Post by lucifer1101 »

this is just and idea. at the moment not meny people who play the universal are active on the forums. a way to fix this is to set up a reward system for people who are active on the forums. give them forum reward points which can be used to help you ingame and give them ranks depending on how much they post. i know it works because they did it on another game i play called shields up www.su-online.co.uk/community go and check it out its worth the reward system.

Rank UP !
« on: October 16, 2006, 01:08:55 PM »

We have amended the Forum base titles today as an incentive to get players posting.

How’s this you say?

Well from now on when you reach a new forum level you can claim the reward attached to that forum title. For instance a new player entering the forums is classed as a "Cadet". After 15 posts you will become a Jr. Pilot at that stage you can PM an admin and claim your reward. In this case 30,000 Credits.

Here’s a heads up for the rewards to claim as you reach each forum level.

Jr. Pilot = 30,000 CR
Pilot = 50,000 CR
Sr. Pilot = 100,000 CR
Jr. Captain = 200,000 / 10K IP
Captain = 300,000 / 15K IP
Sr. Captain = 400,000 / 20K IP
Commodore = 2 Levels (Boost)

Warning: Players making posts that are clearly made to just increase their post count or posts that the Management feel are inappropriate will have posts removed from their account!

Payouts will ONLY be made when claimed. Retroactive claims can be made but must be done so in email format to Coops@shields-up.co.uk

Payouts will ONLY be made on your primary Captain account that is registered with the forums.

Just thought I'd add my support to this new initative, and encourage all of you out there to get onto the forums and start posting your queiries, ideas, your (sensible) suggestions and everything else.

The forums also contain all sorts of great competitons, guides and advice, not to mention stunningly good offers of equipment to new players, so they are definately worth a read. I'd suggest clicking on the 'Show unread posts since last visit' text at the left hand top of the page, or looking at the recent postings at the bottom if you're actually on the forum a lot of the time.

Just for interest, this offer works out as Coops effectively paying you 1,000 for every post you make, indeed new players get 2,000 odd! So please do make use of it, but like Coops says, please do not post just to get your post count up, abusing the system will result in you not getting you rewards!

Once you've been here a good while and reached the Captain ranks, you also get signifigant IP bonuses, equivelent to a good few extra levels IP. For those who reach the dizzying heights of Commodore, you even get bumped up 2 levels for free! Even I'm only just approaching Senior Captain as a CSA though, so this bonus is going to be one worth earning.

I look forward to discussing and helping you all on the forums soon, all the best, Las Smiley

Magic has gone to great lengths (maybe not so great... I don't know :D) to remove references to your post count to prevent nonsense posts made for the purpose of boosting post count.

Implementing such a system would... undo this work ;)

---

Edit: There is an excerpt in the forum rules
Spamming is not allowed on these forums. This includes any form of posting expressly to increase your post count without providing content or posting multiple topics for the same discussion.
While some might not post nonsense and be legitimately enticed by the program, many (including the ones already here) will take advantage of such a scheme.

... and I can't find that post where I recall Magic saying such a thing. I'm sure he'll pop in soon and find it ... or reproduce it ... well maybe.

the whole point of the forums is a place for the community to meet and discuss the game, there isn't much point in saying come on and post something just because the forums aren't active, the primary concern is and always will be the game.

secondary to this as we have pointed out previously there is no source of revenue collected from any player of this game, either via Pay-to-Play fees or via advertising either on the site or in the game (probably one of the true totally free games left ;) ) and running the site costs money in bandwidth, hosting etc.. etc..

thirdly (is there such a word ???) posts require the staff to see if there are issues requiring to be considered or posts that require moderation, myself and Fooli spend a considerable amount of time doing this, and to be honest time is a valuable commodity for the staff team.

ummm does that answer the question... maybe :)

ok now that i have heard it from you i believe the games and the forums need to expand for this to work.

i went to check out the shields up website and thier new feature is thier hiring new staff members to moderate the forums and help new people. theyre calling them CSA and the old staff are CSA-Guardians and GM. never mind about this post until you want to incorperate these ideas. (which at the moment i find highly unlikely)

on a side note....if you wanna post for the heck of it, the forums at http://www.tuwr.net are always open for whatever :P

this forum is mainly for game related chat, which is why i made the tuwr forums mainly for stuff not relating to the game.

space homes

Post by smithy953! »

i dont play on planets as you may or may not know, but i think to get more people interested in space their should be space buildings so like a satalite or space station type thing could become some-ones home and it could be rented or bought and if players could build them they could make money by renting homes out, the homes could have garages so that a player could park their ship and fly off in a diff one (i know that many people have requested space garages) the homes could just be used to store stuff or to trade from and an actual inside would be nice so like u got ya charicter and say 1 or 2 (however many) rooms and players can buy furniture to put in their like radios n sofas n stuf (sort of like a habbo hotel room)

could be a good idea cos then ppl could compete for who has the best home n stuff or maby more than one person could go ina a home and their could be parties and stuff so people would want a good home if they havein ppl ova so they look good and this would mean people need to buy stuff which means theil need to trade to get cash to build/buy/rent and furnish/decorate their homes

thats a great idea smithy. i absolutely hate having to give up my ship once i can afford a better ship.(also for that garage idea you could buy your ship parts and then w8 untill u get back to ur garage to install them.)

What I think would be cool is if you buy a harvestor from a space station then you would use it to harvest things from asteroids in space. So then you could recieve things like water or uridium and sometimes if your lucky you could stumble apon an alien artifact that you could give to an alien for some reward.

I think the game could use a few more ways to make money, because space trading can become tedious(or however you spell it).

all pretty much done now, so should be in next few days - just want to get the galaxy server back in its permanent home first before updating.
