Unreg worlds change

Post by Mit »

The galaxy server will be updated tonight with a change to the way unregistered worlds are handled.. You'll no longer need to crash your ship into a planet to claim a location in the gal - from tonight onwards your unregistered world will be automatically allocated a planet in the galaxy as soon as its turned on. (So you'll immediately be able to infimp to it).

When your world connects, the gal server scans the starsystems for the unoccupied planet closest to the starting systems and allocates your world there. If your world goes offline for more than half an hour the planet may be reallocated to another world server.

This seems like a good place to post this, but how much money does it cost to buy a registered planet? Is it a monthly fee? And could I get one for the Galatic Quest Prize (when I complete it) instead of the PS2 games?

details on the registration process will be formalised and updated soon.. itll be a small fee. (less than $10)
'fraid the galactic prizes were just for the first people to complete the quest (and ive still yet to dish em out :/ (*flog Mit) ) - though there will be similar opportunities for prizes like that in the future.

Oh ok. Thing is, my parents probably wouldn't let me even pay $2! They're cheap and think all internet is unsafe

Sadly they're right in many cases :) But we try and keep this place as safe as we can - mostly by banning any problem people first, and not really bothering to ask questions later. We have had some very young players and people too young to have their own credit cards etc that have registered/donated in the past, with their parents' permission.

If you're under 13 (I think) there's a special sort of disclaimer form we accept (to do with data protection etc for minors, can't remember exactly what it's called)... the staff spend as much time as possible removing rubbish from the forums, and we take our code of conduct seriously: if anyone breaks it in a significant way, or breaks the forum rules (pumpkin or whatever) they get banned. In the past we've gone as far as contacting their ISP. And if someone does something truly awful we'll happily call the police. In other words, we do what we can to be responsible, given that we're basically doing this for free in our spare time.

As far as donations go, it's tricky if you're in a position where you want to but aren't allowed to donate, and we sympathise... it sucks being young, doesn't it. On the other hand, if you're young then you're not as old as us crusty development monkeys, and you should rejoice in that :)

[PS: Mit, $10 is too cheap, though it is an ironic amount :)

$10's too much just for registration of a server. If we were hosting the world too... now, thats another matter...

lol, i have a question about these unregistered worlds too. Is the router problem fixed? I've done the quide but it hasn't worked for me and i've only had my router for a couple of weeks (Top-of-the-range from ISP who makes them - BT). Seems like its something to do with IP or Ports but i dunno how to solve it in 1.50.2, so is this fixed in 1.50.3 so that i dont have to continue editing stuff or back to the guides? :)

There isn't a "router problem" with the game, as far as I know. You might have a problem with your router in terms of its config, though. Probably best to post full details in the help forum and we'll see if we can help you.

Make sure you're using the 0.50.3 version of the servers, then make sure you've got a folder called Data/Text . (The folder is created in the full install but if you've just patched the exe it won't be there yet). If it isnt there, create it then restart the server and it should generate the newspaper.txt automatically.

Zar, all seems to be working from what i've seen - if that unreg world is starting up with the same ID as one of your registered ones that might be to blame. Remind me to look into that with you next time you see me online.
