probably at a college or website host.
the catches would be that webhosts rarly allow you to run programs and you have to psychal access to the server exe to set it up, and at a college you need to know the network admin so they can forward the ports so your world(s) will even work

Makes me wonder about how port fowarding and such.
I mean, if you can't forward ports, can the World server (or any other application for that matter) use a port that was designated for something else? (example: Port 80 (HTTP))
Hmm...now you've got me wondering about network stuff.
(But please do tell if you manage to get the server running and allow ones server to be hosted)

Buddies got a web design business going. T1 isn't really too expensive if you're making money off hosting. Business is bad for him tho lol so he's got bandwidth. Actually now that i think about it, the connection might be a partialized T1. Wouldn't have the full bandwidth of a T1 then, but it'd still probably be like 5x faster upload then cable. Some time this weekend i need to download the new a-tractor client and see what mits been doin.
I'll see if I can get something setup and start playing with it... been a very long time since i've messed with this stuff.
Think he only pays a couple hundred a month for his connection. Rates vary depending upon the region and location in a city and stuff. When I get things set up I can host it.
Ah... one thing tho, I think he runs Linux redhat or something. He only has one windows server i believe. Is there a vers for linux? If not, might be a good idea.
The person who's island is being hosting may also have access to edit it, not sure.

heya zt
long time etc.
theres a linux version available, but there are a few 'security'-type issues with it which mean we dont have it on the public downloads. Drop me & devi a mail when you're ready to get it goin (mit [at] theuniversal.net & device [at] theuniversal.net ) and we'll be able to sort you out with a current build.
