I think this is supposed to read:

"What do I need to do when the game says I can't find suitable z department format."

But I could be wrong. Anyone any ideas?

Z depth,Graphic options thingy.
If you can get in-game (like if you get an error box and ignore or continue lets you pass),press F1,go under options->graphic options and uncheck "Allow Z buffer reads"

The error might go away if you have the latest DirectX and the latest graphic card drivers for your graphics card.

(That's all I know)

that error is usually caused by not having directx 8.0 or higher installed.

Checking for newer (directX 8.0 compatable) vid card drivers or changing the desktop colour depth (16 bit instead of 32 bit, or vice versa) might help. Can u let us know what video card you've got?

(p.s. for future reference, zar, only error anyone will ever get if they aint got directX 8.0 installed is "missing d3d8.dll". Game won't get any further than that)

Start -> Run (or whatever it is for you - its icon is a window with 3 lines in front of it)
Type 'dxdiag'. Press enter.
Choose the tab Screen (?).
The top left part should be about the video card.
The name of the video card is the first thing listed.

That's not really helpful to be honest.

To find what your video card model is called:
Go to Start->Run->type dxdiag->Click Display Tab.
The 1st is the full name of your video card,2nd,manufactor,3rd,specific model name

No, this means he's running his video card with VGA.DLL. That sometimes happens to me after crashes.

i fond directix 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) and i fond dxdiag 5.03.0001.0904 32-bits unicode
i now it is not te wydid you asked it but my komputer works in neterlands as languwich
