0.48.1 beta update

For Beta-list members, a new 0.48.1 beta is on the downloads page - main additions being the avatar select, market stalls, help menu/interface and a few improvements to the auto-terrain generation.
A lot of the new bits won't work properly (or at all, in the case of the marketplace stuff), without a 0.48.1 server - which is now available on the downloads page for registered world owners. I'll put up a build for unregistered ppl once someone tells me whether it all works or not :)

Sorry, no new space stuff yet.. Its on the top of my list now tho :]

how do you open the marketstall thing and select an avatar?
yes, am on a 48.1 world :P


some bug:
in the help menu: basic faq, game info, commands list, and guide to this world all open up the ? menu in the one window
the commands list opens in the wrong window.

world owners... dont forget to changed ur weapons script filenames! :D

er...at least make a copy to the new name for now... my caveman cant terrorize the advanced now. :/

server should update the filenames automatically, i think.

these.. yeh.. bit messed atm, and one of the main reasons i stuck the extra specific 'beta' tag on this build. WIll be sorted shortly.

To select an avatar, choose the 'Select Avatar' option on the front end menu.
To open a marketstall, first you need to be on a 48.1 server that allows it ( *Settings -> World Rules -> Market stall rules). If available, an 'Open Marketstall' option will appear on your player information menu. When you walk near an open marketstall, a 'market' icon appears at the bottom left (next to the guide and radio icons) which you cn click to visit other ppl's stalls.

still had the white screen after *kick myself or *recycle to leave my planet (since i cant launch from it)... when it went back to start game on the main menu, the avatar select screen was rotated by 90 degrees. a few closes and launches from the spawn spacestation got it back playable again

maybe its only doing this for me, but when i click on the avatar selection i get

Which of course means i can't see a couple of textures

The untextured thing I see as well.

So far I've seen one bug, Radar doesn't work correctly. (Locations are wrong)
I've also heard some others...I think the map might have a problem...

(If you didn't know every other person besides yourself in vehicle 1 is a monkey! :D)

yeah, just noticed the radar thing also, the lines are wide apart when you look north.

and the remove item when you have the market stall open doesnt work.

you'll see other ppl as monkeys on worlds without the 0.48.1 server.
thanks for the other reports.. will get all that stuff done up for the public release

Weapons are messed up with the beta...
The weapons box doesn't display,weapons don't work.
Device and GK also reported this.

I'll try to upgrade mechzone to 48.1 and see if weapons works better (change of script name prolly to blame).

No weapons here either,

Also, the avatar select screen is moving around a lot.
first it was upside down, reset, then it was vertical.

avatar selection rotation thing fixed for the public release.weapons work ok for me on magrathea which is running the latest server. could you confirm (with *getvers) that this is on 48.1 servers pls?

Allright, upgrading mechzone fixed all weapons trubbles here.

The server even carefully took care of renaming the .mts file itself. Nice Bert, good boy. :)

I cannot tell you, I no longer see FPS displayed on my screen. You still have fps displayed on yours ?

fps (along with ping and mph) was moved to the bottem right corner over the clock and gametime.

i donno if this has to do w/my aggressively declining performance, of the game in .48.1 but amongst the random disconnects from my planet, and having to close the game out, etc, to get back going, im finding multiple 'theuniversal.exe' instances in my process manager, after any running instance has been closed down.

are you finding this framerate trouble specifically after you've been to your planet? (could you try a reset of your pc, then visit other places nd see if its ok then?)
if it is, it is indeed quite likely to be related to those running processes. kill em with ctrl + alt + del for now and i'll try to track em down. (its easily done when ive mucked around with a lot of the main game loop code as ive done in this version - all in the best nature of beta-tests :] )

To help track it down, could you give me a full description of what happens when you do a *recycle? Is there any text on screen? What happens to the background? Can u still type or anything?
Doin a *recycle from a local world works fine for me with the 48.1 client .. i end up back at the frontend screen as intended and can quit or continue as normal. Something odd must be happenin there :)
