Desperate plea for help from the Gods!

Help!

I was playing for about 2hrs or more tonight and I was docking at a station to call it a night, so when I hit [F10] to dock I got the docking sequence but then all I saw was an outside view of the station and no matter what button I pressed, nothing responded. I pressed [F1] then went back to cockpit view and still no response and I still got the same outside station view. I quit and tried to start Universal again but it won't allow me to connect. This was around 01:10GMT so not sure if it was via me or the Universal servers that has had the problem.

Is there anything I can do as I was doing really well and I don't want to loose what I had. I'm way too far gone to be reset now.

Is there any file on my system that I can backup to save my data in case I need to reinstall or can you restore me from within?

Any tips/help would be most appreciated as I'm really getting into things now and I can't face starting from scratch again.

Whew!

I thought I'd quickly try again before I bed down, and I got in again ok and I appeared outside the station in question. I docked without a problem and I'm in safe and very relieved!

Was it me or was it the system that had the error? I'd still like to know if there is any files we should backup in case of loosing stats?

I was going to delete my original post, but I'll leave it in case it's a problem that has not been noted before.

galaxy server might not have had a stable conenction so it seemed down.
could be tens of thousands of miles between you and it, so its easy for something to go wrong along thier somewhere.

all character stats and other info is stored serverside.

I've spotted a few weird things with station docking. We've just about got a working bugtracker again (thanks to uber-hedge) so now we have somewhere official to report it :) I'll make sure this is noted.

As for the galaxy connection... who knows. My ISP has been repairing and upgrading some routers and stuff - it's possible that was the cause.

if you press f10 twice to dock.. you get in straight away .. without having to wait for the annoying cutscene to finish.... fun.

That's what I normally do, and that's what I did in this case. The connection to the server must have been screwed up or something so when I docked it looked like I was completely stuck with a lovely outside view of the station instead.
