I've manage to download and install. I've flown my space ship to a couple planet's space station. But I haven't seen anyone or figured out how to get down to a planet. There has to be some basic feature I'm missing.
Oh, at the moment I'm on the space station in orbit around Reina Roja.
Uhm, I seem to be missing basic instructions

heh, yeh - we should prolly make landing instructions more explicit (it is in the help files under "planet" but not as obvious as it might be). It's one of those interesting "usability" type issues - 90% of ppl work out the planet crashing thing, but the other 10% don't... there's nothin wrong with 'em, they just don't :)
there are loads of planets online as I type: biplaneworld, sabrada, the republic and zoric in the starting system, for instance.

Johhny, you should be able to buy an infimp (infinite improbability drive) from one of the space stations around any planet (hopefully they're in stock). Dock with a station by flying near it and hitting F10 (the "dock" icon at the top of the screen will light up when you're in range).
Once you've got an infimp you activate it by clicking the lil symbol on the left of your screen, type in a planet name, and bingo... you're there.
Another approach is to type !resetme while in space. That ought to reset your character and put you back in the starting system.
Having said all that: as Kirby says... something's not quite right, cos Swabs and Planitia are usually online too. Do you have a firewall or router or something not quite configured right?
