''Connecting to world..'' Zaroba please read!
As i start the game, there comes the ''Connecting to world..''... And then ''Connecting to galaxy..''... Then ''Establishing connection''... I have a problem... As I start Universal, in the place of ''Establishing connection'' there is ''Connection refused''... As i press the Abort, there comes this screen with galaxies... As I try to connect again to Andromeda, there comes this ''Establishing connection''... It takes plenty of time... When its finshed, there comes a window, that says:
Could not connect to the galaxy - No response Either the galaxy is not currently online or the internet connection is not avalaible. Check your connections or try later.
Then the galaxy-window appears again.
And I have checked the connections: Works perfectly
And I have tried later: waited for 30minutes 2 times.
What kind of problem is it then, Zaroba?

sounds like bad service
You do have other options, just their not very nice ones, and i'm not really going to pursue asking for anything, but it sounds to me like the Universal server(s) aren't up to scratch with the games requirements. Often MMOG's are hit with this problem, and thus the reason they revert to charging users, or some users (classified as members) to use different parts of the game. I don't really like paying for MMOG's and i never will (because then if i didn't delegate half my life to it, i'd feel ripped off). So perhaps it is true that its no-ones fault but that of the creators/hosts, but even still i question whether or not its lag...[continues to look for other reasons and solutions]
just remember the fact that this game is all run by volenteers. hopefully it will always be free to play. not even the games owner gets paid to program the game, except for the occasional world purchase and donation. he does it all when he has free time away from his full-time job or wife.
it could easily be lag. as the game is run by volenteers, everything is hosted on peoples home PCs useing thier cable or dsl connections. nothing high speed like a t3 or anything. alot of people go on a world, it can easily lag.
crashes are easily possible too. also, voleenters useing thier home PCs to host the game. true some of us have multiple PCs so if we crash our main gaming pc, the server doesen't go down. but then thiers also ISP and power problems due to bad weather etc. or even hardware problems, alot of the world hosters use the same (or less powerful) hardware in the servers as you use in the pc your playing with, not like many (if any) of us can afford a $10k super high quality IBM rackmount server with redundant everything, or super powerful UPS and backup generators, or multiple redundent connections.
volenteers with PCs and connections just like yours run the whole game, so any issues you ever have with your PC or ISP can just as easily happen to any of the game staff.

The recent gal crash was "just one of those things" - typically, it fell over during the only 24 hour period I wasn't there to keep an eye on it. It's back online now and working fine.
The galaxy itself almost certainly does not have lag problems. The actual amount of data exchanged between clients/worlds and the galaxy is so tiny that over the course of a week it averages out at zero :)
As for connections to worlds: quite a few people don't seem to realise that this is a peer-to-peer system, and that at the moment all world servers are just running on PCs sitting in someone's house or office, as Zar points out. And yes, that's one of the reasons why it's free. If a world has heavy user load or (most importantly) requires a large volume of model/texture downloads, and is only on a thin connection, then yeh, you're gonna see lag, just like you would if you tried running a 24-player game of unreal or something on your home PC. We're looking at ways to reduce that problem by shifting the file transfer load, and eventually we'll probably make use of some higher bandwidth servers to up the capacity overall - but that would mean finding a way to pay for them too. The game is actually pretty efficient, but the net's the net... .

Fooli has answered this mostly but i think its worth further emphasising a couple of points..
The recent downtime of the gal and general lagginess on biplaneworld following the press announcement were both fairly minor issues which can be/have been resolved easily enuf. (Not that there wont be other new 'minor issues' in the future With all this part-time coding and permanent 'beta'ing its a common part of the game unfortunately).
Except when dealing with large file transfers, the servers themselves arent being particularly stressed bandwidth-wise atm, even on a home user cable connection. Redirecting some file transfers away from the server to a website url is a plan for the near future, and then id expect any home connection to be able to handle at least 50+ players without noticeable lag for the host.
Its not just free because we jus happen not to have got to the point where we decide we have to charge to play it, its free to play coz its designed that way.
which i reckon is a good thing

Working in a large game company's online team means I am very aware of this (its scary the sortof money involved in hosting any commercial game :] - and its the reason almost none of em make any money at all) and avoiding this issue is fundamental to the design of the game.Universal server(s) aren't up to scratch with the games requirements. Oh My God!!!
It havent worked now for 5 days
Actually it have work for many day now, gi joe. It was down for about 12 hours last weekend, which was unfortunate, but hey - life's a beach. It's been up consistently for about 70 hours now. Lots and lots of people can get in. So can you, if you can work out what's gone wrong. I suspect there's something screwy with your internet setup. You running any odd software? Firewalls? Got router problems? You changed your password or username? Could be lots of things, but it ain't the galaxy (this time :)
