Application error when launching..

Post by Jemrada »

When I launch tractor, I am getting an application error. It does this as soon as it launchs. It doesn't even make it to the server screen.

Here is what it says:

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application."

Any ideas?

Doesnt tell me a lot, other than its something pretty serious goin wrong. Do you see an outline of a window or anything before it displays the error?

An error like that, that doesnt even get to the stage of failing on Direct3D initialisation is probably gonna be something quite fundamental - like a missing DLL (have you got DirectX 8 installed?), lack of hardware (ya got a sound card & vid card?), lack of memory (anything more than 64Mb should do) or jus a fundamental incompatability with the OS. (What version of windows u on?)

Not sure answering any of those questions will help much tho :/

If you haven't tried a full clean (i.e uninstall and delete the folder completely) re-install - that might do the trick i guess..

Actually.. if you're up for doin that - instead of just deleting the folder could you zip it up first please? (im assuming u know all about zip and stuff - if not, forget it and delete at will :] ). If a full re-install does help and you're able to zip the stuff, id be very interested in gettin a copy of it all to see whats goin wrong. Could be very useful in solving similar problems for other ppl.

This may have absolutely nothing to do with the problem...but i'll mention it cuz it's easy to try. At one point I was having problems getting Tractor to run...what worked for me was to delete the .cfx file, and then start the game (making ABSOLUTELY sure to use the same user name and password as you did the first time). For whatever reason, it worked, and has been problem free since. I know one other person (wasn't it you Knight?) had it work when they had a similar problem. Again, I don't know if your error is at all the same (can't for the life of me remember if i got an error msg or what it was), but just thought I'd mention it on the off chance it would help. Good luck!

i guess a corrupted cfx file could easily stop the game from loading correctly. since it has all the setitngs info that is loaded when the game first starts up.

Ah goodstuff :]
Dont suppose you kept a copy of the corrupted .cfx file by any chance? I'd be interested in having a look see what it was doing.

(Similarly, if anyone else ever gets the problem, pls forward me a copy of the file so i can debug it)

Argh! You know, until about 2 weeks ago..I did (yes, Magicfinger, that's the cfx file that was on my desktop in the screenshot I sent you :) ) About 2 weeks ago I cleaned up my desktop and that was one of the things that went :(

However, just FYI, the events leading up to the corrupt file for me were my laptop going into hibernate with zoric running, and then having to be powered off and on to get it *out* of hibernate (something screwed up and it just wouldnt' come out). When I restarted the comp and went to go back into Zoric again, I had the problem. Calren suggested getting rid of the .cfx file and it worked. First I tried Installing the game fresh in a new folder, and moving the cfx file in (same results as the orginal install), and then ultimately, getting rid of the cfx file completely (well, to desktop) and it ran fine.

*fingers crossed someone else has one they can send you*
