oceanic: world reboot / bdat change

Post by hedgehog »

oceanic went down for reboot about five minutes ago, to load up a few changes.

basicly i noticed that the origional vehicle factories (for those of you that don't use the new autowork style buildings), were missing a few vehicles in their production list (namely vehicle 3 and 5 i believe).

i've added a new series of vehicle factories at the end of the bdat. the names and list of what they produce are below:

Vhcle Factory 2,3,4
Vhcle Factory 5,6,7
Vhcle Factory 8,9,10
Vhcle Factory 11,12,13
Vhcle Factory 14,15,16
Vhcle Factory 17,18,19
Vhcle Factory 20,21

note that these are exact copies of the previous vehicle factories, with only the names and producable items changed. because of that, many of the demands required to make later vehicles will be higher than the previous factories (for instance vehicle 3 now has vehicle 4's demands, so 4 has 6's demands, 6 has 8's, all the way through to some new values added for 20 and 21.

(ps to mit or zar, i could use some announcements-posting access when you have the chance :] for the moment if you could move this over appropriately, that'd be slick. )

Thanks Zar - sorry, I mistakenly thought you moved it for me last time :]
Apparently she'd tossed about the idea of having me run it full-time before recent events, so yeah; it's full time now.

Kinda wish I could change one letter in the name and make it Oceania though (George Orwell's 1984 British-American continent). Airstrip One would be a neat island name, given that's Orwell's britain. Rather liked the idea of theming some islands around literary islands like that. C.S. Lewis' Voyage of the Dawn Treader was always my favorite of the Narnia Chronicles, and there'd be so much fun stuff in there for a cluster of islands: dragon island, the dufflepods, etc.

Archepilagoes (I think that's what you mean/how you spell it) would be very spiffy.

I'd wondered why you couldn't buy vehicle 3s on any Oceanic isles, thou. Can you not change the name then?

it was just the way the bdat was set up. i just realized the same problem applies to the autowork buildings as well, so i'll make that update shortly.

it's getting rather unorganized on the oceanic bdat. pretty soon i'm going to start having to make some world suggestions ;-D

Heh. Keep trying hedgie, you'll find the right config one day :)

By the way, can someone send me a buildings.dat and the editor if possible? I wanna play aroundwith some ideas. Plus, once I finally get my mini-server up n running and a new router that supports port forwarding *kicks router* I have a broadband connection I'm not using ;)

wrong forum for me to be saying this, but i'd like to see a way that the bdat could be broken into categories, so that the world can append buildings of a given "type", without breaking the whole feckin thing.

so that way you just pick your farms out of the farms "folder", etc.

juding from all the intricacies of that though, i'm guessing we'll not see anything remotely resembling that in our lifetimes :P

would be great to have the bdat devided into catagorys via folders like a hard drive is.

mit, add it , add it, add it as part of the next version!

on a side note, you could always go the neat and organised way i have zoric set up. several distinct building setups but with the needed stuff (town, school, etc) at the very top.

i do quite like the way zoric has it set up, as it's the most organized it can be under the current system. the only problem i could see encountering is that it's not condusive to the gate requests i get, which usually involve creating a new building and taking it on the end. that would have to be part of the folder concept - having multiple "ends"; one for each building category.

though i do suppose it's possible to create a dozen sets you're happy with, and then just throw all the crap at the end, you'd just have to be pretty dang happy with those ten sets :]

another less graceful, but potentially quick-and-dirty possibility would perhaps be some way of exporting it all to html like the island servers do, but have it sorted by "building genre". then when you find the farm you like for instance, you just look up the ID on the gate. then it wouldn't really matter as much if it was a complete mess gateside.

heeheh. i added that last ", you'd just have to..." bit after writing the rest of the post, and forgot to check how much i put as the hypothetical magic number :]

might as well go baker's dozen and make it lucky number 13, heheh.
