WWII era German Airship, (large blimp like the hindenburg) or maybe this would be more fun... http://www.johneric.org/airship.JPG
Jesus on a pogo-stick. (could work like the hot air balloon on other worlds but with different attributes) Normal animation could be stationary small jumps. Del or tab could do larger moving jumps. http://www.religionisbullshit.com/jesuspogo.jpg

You could fake a helicopter by using the flight model of the WWI or WWII planes and flying it nose up. It would look odd before takeoff though.
Hot air balloon changed around could work too. Like the Jesus pogo stick

blimps have already been used (thiers 4 different ones floating around, 2 have actually been used). trouble with them is that to make them look realistic, they need to take up your whole screen . think of the star ships that were on zoric 6 and then think of something bigger.
lightcycles have been used already too.
ooo, i just found a folder with pics of cars that i had posted long ago when somebody else was making models.

Re: Zoric 8 thoughts/ideas
see, i kinda thought that was the beauty of having a resource to help start things up. you still have to make trades either way, more than likely you actually have to work much harder, since classic econ tends to be built by a few early adopters making 25 houses or that first cheap food store.Calren wrote: Hated that on RB because the entire economy for the early part of the game was geared towards throwing items into the void. I like the players having to, for the most part, actually trade and get money cirulating
granted, on both types of islands, it's always the early bird who gets the worm -- you're the first to start an industry, you're probably going to be the last one standing or first to retire onto greener pastures. the success that i saw in the government model is that it was an unemployment benefit that increased with the amount of physical work you did - if you put in the hours, you got the riches; it wasn't just about being there first.
first adopters will always have some upper hand, the key is finding a way to allow new players to catch up or even unseat them. obviously fighting is the other solution there, though it seems like the recent tone is for people to take the whole thing so seriously that no one dare shoot anyone else. i shot someone on zion a few times - i think one person quit then and there, and the other screamed bloody murder at me for a few days before quitting as well.
i agree that trading with a government who's never going to be hurt or advantaged can seem a bit futile at times - then again so is coming into a classic econ place 3 days after it's started in my opinion.
i think the game has yet to find it's maturity point in terms of just the right balance of settings. not necessarially with the objective of being fair -- what real life economy is fair, heh -- but i guess to not feel trivial to both early adopters and late arrivals.
the big quandry in my mind is if you have hunger/thirst/fuel needs - that's something you constantly need if you've just started yesterday or you've been there for three months. rich kids aren't about to abandon those industries, since once they hit the top ten they're in a continual fight to keep those numbers up, and the basic four or five needs industries (food, water, fuel, faster vehicle, housing) are typically the way to do it. come to think of it until recently, that's been the entire makeup of every economy, just a few different foodstuffs to choose from, but we all know to just get beer tea and steaks anyway.
one suggestion i've partly employed in rb4 (which will determine really what technique(s) i rely the most on for the next few worlds) is trying to take rich kids' minds off sticking with those early industries, giving them an incentive to interact with younger players, and giving them new stuff to yearn for.
a] the new items in the bdat are great for richer players who want to go beyond the traditional game aspects - upgrade their existing "best" vehicles, getting higher ammo power, etc.
b] higher level buildings which produce the same things as the lower level ones, but more efficiently. they're more expensive and they require more employees. if we're using the efficiency calc which requires employees for a building to be efficient, you're forcing the rich kids to make some decisions as to what the more profitable bottom line is: stick with the kiddie buildings, or advance and have to court newbie workers for your factory. putting a bit of power back into jobs rather than just building ownership could really help a lot.
the other thing i like about the higher employment numbers (and i'm really interested to see what success this has on zoric-8), is that you've got a forced trickle-down economy, where higher-ups are forced to either hire other rich bastards they're competing against, or hire poorer players which aren't a threat (yet), to the point where they can someday hope to afford their own industry.
if this is successful enough and everyone doesn't b*tch to no end, that might be a viable alternative to "the void", or at least a partial supplement.
c]empowerment - enough default materials to build at least one building for each player. be it a house, a vehicle fac, whatever-- start all "level one" buildings at an equal cost level and allow the newbs to at least compete on the ground floor from minute one.
d] sidequests - in rb4 a big deal will be collecting elements from nearly every building in the game (which the rich kids can't possibly own all of) and then searching miles and miles of landscape for "secret" buildings where you combine the materials. so you've got to interact with lower players or fellow rich guys you're competing against (which would love to overcharge you while helping your quest), and then you've got a lot of wasting fuel and adventure searching the far corners of the world. the results are worth it: rewards include your own private hornball court, opening up robocrows for the whole island, including a personal "champion robocrow" no one gets to have, and similar to zar's stuff, getting special royalty style vehicles no one else gets to lay claim to.
e] though it doesn't seem to work proper yet, i'm a big fan of the "get player's entire inventory" kill reward. that alone is worth it's weight in gold if anyone had the guts to kill anyone else
then again i've been a bit MIA the past few weeks and haven't been able to get into zoric, so if all that's useless, feel free to flog
(btw please don't mistake the message length for a flame, you just got me thinkin )
