Xebec is past its testing stage and we are now able to celebrate by officially announcing the start of the Xebec best Castle Contest.

The castles are built by players who have the appropriate skills. The castles will be judged according to number of buildings, interest of location, number of item sources linked, and physical beauty.

prizes:

1st place: 1200 stone, 800 wood, 200 gold, 10 emeralds, 10 rubies, 10 sapphires, 1 royal horse.

2nd place: 800 stone, 400 wood, 50 gold, 1 emerald

3rd place: 400 stone, 200 wood, 25 gold

competition prize, everyone who competes will be awarded a special prize

THE TOWN OF ICEOVER
built by the illustrious wizard of Xebec, Blaze.

Image[/URL]

Nestled in the crescent mountain near Ambar, this large fortified castle outshines the capital city by far. Boasting every plausible building while preserving a spacious and prestigious courtyard, framed in ornamental stonework. An ornate marbled tile entrance greets visitors with open gates. Perfect for the space traveler who'd love to spend a nice afternoon in a safe location, or for a rival faction, hell bent on destroying something nice, this architecture has it all.

Graphics -> Shadow mode 2. (Providing the client hasn't turned off shadow volumes in the small mode options menu).
Its a reasonably advanced technique for generating dynanmic shadows and can generate some nice effects. They do however suffer from being a bit slow sometimes (particularly for those without a really good PC), and only work on some models. (The code also sometimes generates some odd glitches sometimes, like bits of shadow floating on the screen for no apparent reason).
I used it on genesis and revelations to make the henge look prettier than it would do normally. I wouldn't currently recommend using it for any normal world (i.e. ones in which new buildings can be added by players), but i'd be interested to see what it looks like on those nice big castles.
