hi all, this has possibly been asked before but is there any kind of ladder or transparent system where users can see exactly what is needed to keep their business going? i own carlot 2 on Zoric 6 and have been told that there is no parts yet for building vehicles 9-14 and there wont be for some time!
i would like to know what is needed for me to be able to sell these vehicles and how the economy works for this building!
im sure this is something on other peoples minds too and would go a long way i think to keeping people interested in playing and coming back more often! there is not much competition on Zoric 6 as there seems to be no investment in most of the buildings and it is hard to buy and sell products between places!
i dont want this to be seen as a gripe but more an idea towards helping new and not so new players having a more enjoyable experience when playing!
help to learn economy
There are 2 ways to find out what the production lines to your building are..
The main one is to look at your building menu.. find what it requires, then find the building that produces those items and check its menu too, etc etc down the production line.. Make sure you've got a supplier for the stuff you need before you jump in and buy the building. i.e. Ya need to actually do a bit of research to find out what you need or what you should buy. There is currently some info on the Census screen that can sometimes be useful - and i'll also be look at extending that and including info such as average prices and supply and demand amounts - related in a way to the recent forum discussion about Stock Tickers.
But I think what you're expecting is a single screen showing a little graphical heirarchy showing each production line, right? That sorta thing has been discussed a bit before (and i will probably look into an optional setting for it sometime soon ) but in a way i actually think that making it require a bit of work makes the game more involved.
The other way to find out stuff like that is to ask other players on the island. This is an important point - coz in a similar way to the above, i think theres an argument to say that a screen shouldnt be added, because forcing ppl to research the production lines a bit encourages player interaction and discussion, and thereby enhances the online/mutiplayer aspect of the game. I've always disliked online games where the design means the other players could just as well be AI - It is generally true to say that the ppl who do well on tractor worlds are those who spend time discussing the price of corn (for example) and the relative benefits of owning or not owning a particular type of building.
In a way, buying that vehicle factory that doesnt have much supply or demand without first asking around to see if its practical is a tactical mistake on your part.. in the future, you'd probably do a bit more research first before buying a business.
Ultimately tho, i think you're right in expecting things to be a bit clearer for new players, and as said, i'll look into added some extra options for screens like that. In the meantime, the new beginners guide screen on Shift+F3 will emphasise the need to ask around before jumping into a purchase, and extra world-specific help screens will help give new players the info they need.

maybe when building a building, it should give a list of items bought/sold/produced/made by the building - could help people decide what to build.
Hold onto ur factory matey - when someone finally makes some parts for what you need, you're gonna be the sole producer on that good unless someone else builds a factory - I smell monopoly :]

thanks for you replies on this!
i understand about the graphical being a lot of work but i think something like it would help everyone to build their businesses up faster and therefor keep them coming back more often! even if there was something for each building or business type that users could see to let them know what is needed before they jump in to a business like i did (hey i was a noob) and have to wait AGES for the rest of the chain to be built for their business to become successful!
when i bought the building i didnt know what it sold as there was no prices for anything and no investment so i thought it was just run down! i now know that there is no factory on the island that makes the cars i need and ppl have told me that there wont be for some time! i am going to keep this building now as i dont think anyone will buy it off me but also i can wait till the economy is better for it and hopefully someone builds the rest for me or i earn enough money to build what i need!
something else that is bothering me though is the fact that there are plenty of buildings in the game with NO investment and plenty of good stock but they are not selling anything! e.g. there is a farm with 370 tea plants and no investment but the tea plants are not for sale! why is this? i was looking round the island and this seems to be the case for a lot of buildings and it means there is nothing for ppl to do! i dont have enough money at the min to build any businesses or learn new trades so i cannot start up my own things but i was hoping i could make some money buying and selling produce!
again im not griping but just thinking ahead and about other players and how to make the game more appealing to new players!
thanks!

Well, there are some people who like to set their buy prices really low and not lower their sell prices.. Like tea for example.. *cough* tom. >_>
They buy tea plants for 2d.. really low.. hardly any profit on the tea farmers side. and sell tea for 1s each, and apparently THAT'S cheap. They make 38d or 2s10d every 5 teas they sell. On the tea plants side, its 3d profit, every 5 they sell (if they buy for 2d). So, pretty much a reason why some people aren't selling them, apparently there was a buyer for 4d per plant, but tom happened to have purchased that shop now. Only a few places left to sell tea for a decent profit.
Basically, people like to save, and sell it to highest buyer. Unless they happen to be really desperate and don't care... (you know, if you just stopped selling cheaply for a while, the buyers should raise their prices
)
And for people with no investment, well, they really don't want to buy anything, as they want to get rid of everything rather than buy anything. Either that, or they have a private supplier.
