landing on planets

Description:
when i go to land on any planet. i get a black screen that says please wait downloading buildings but nuthing happens after that. i can chat on the planets but thats all.

yes I'm having this problem too after having installed the new 55 patch. I'm running windows 7

Ok, i've replicated this here.. as suspected, the problem is the game is failing to write files to the disk. Can be fixed by running the program as an administrator (Right click Clients\The Universal.exe -> Compatability -> Run this program as an administrator).
I'll check up on the installer to find out how that can be made automatic.

i seem to remember a problem similar to that a long while ago. think starting when vista came out. vista by default makes everything read only, and as a result, the game couldn't right to the folders.

was easily fixed by right-clicking the game dir and deselecting the read only option.

i tried this and it solved the issue i was having that when i log in, it asked me to fill out the charachter name / password window every time. I can log in without having to fill out my info, however i still cant land on planets. i right clicked TU exe in the clients and ran as admin. did that with the world exe too. did it with the shortcut too. still getting a black screen when i try to land on my planet. ill try it on another planet and see what happens.

you mentioned that it had something to do with the thing not writing files to disk. that may be possible because it seems to not be writing the namesfile to my data folder, even tho it remembers all my names changes. I even put in a file called namesfile, namesfiles, txt and without... nothing.

i cant land on zoric either, it says "downloading buildings press esc to exit" or something. with a black screen. The world's scripted login texts will still appear. I didnt see the "compatibility" option like you said, i just clicked "run as administrator" when i right clicked the universal exe in clients.

i ran my world as administrator and it rewrote the files, i know cause my world is nearly blank! its ok im pretty sure i have the files still, just have to put stuff back into slots and rename stuff but it solved the issue i was having with the missing namesfile!

but yeah apparently to get everything to work i have to run the universal exe as administrator every time i want to play, and run the world exe in my universal folder every time i start the planet. i cant find any option to make it run as admin each time.

anyway thanks! now my world might actually be playable cause i can host the textures online with the namesfile and ppl can download the textures without having to wait days!
