Game revitilization
its obvious the game needs help. i am planning on making a bunch of worlds that will be able to get put in the galaxy when mit comes back to visit. i would like to invite other world owners to do the same.
i currently have several worlds either in development or nearly done:
maze world 1 - small maze
-just a heightmap with a maze to navigate.
-heightmap - 100%
-texturing - 100%
-buildings - 100%
-script - 0%
maze world 2 - medium maze
-just a heightmap with a maze to navigate.
-heightmap - 100%
-texturing - 0%
-buildings - 100%
-script - 0%
maze world 3 - large maze
-just a heightmap with a maze to navigate.
-heightmap - 100%
-texturing - 0%
-buildings - 100%
-script - 0%
wings field - plane flying/racing
- this is a world i had made and run long ago
- don't know how much changing will need to be done to make it work with current stuff
-heightmap - ?
-texturing - ?
-buildings - ?

level 1 ffa combat - free vehs, unlimited weaps

- don't know how much changing will need to be done to make it work with current stuff
-heightmap - 100%
-texturing - ?
-buildings - 100%

level 2 ffa combat - make weaps to fight with
- this is a world i had made and run long ago

-heightmap - ?
-texturing - ?
-buildings - ?

level 3 ffa combat - post apocalyptic world, find weaps, quests
- still under development, lots of work still to do
-heightmap - 0%
-texturing - 0%
-buildings - 0%
-script - 10%
ffa combat - lotr - ring of power gives various bonuses
- still under development, lots of work still to do
- main lotr script is done
-heightmap - 0%
-texturing - 0%
-buildings - 0%
-script - 100%
Delivery world - similar to the game 18 Wheels of Steel.
- take jobs delivering goods to various cities. script will allow over 1000 different delivery jobs. depending on how things work out, possibly over 2500
-heightmap - 100%
-texturing - 25%
-buildings - 25%
-script - 25%
other world ideas, not started:
western world - simple econ based around life in the old western era, no hunger/thirst, mine for gold
indian world - same as above, indian themed
fun world - free everything, just have fun

Greetings.
I have some ideas about how to get people into this galaxy, I actually think it's playable in its current state, we just need to target the right communities.
How do we target the "modding" communities of games like world of warcraft, morrowind, etc? Currently, there are tons of people who love to spend their time modifying existing games, but the only way they can show off their creations is through a youtube video.
I believe that the mod community would actually start setting up planets here because its free and people can play. The invisibility issue in space that everyone thinks is going to be the fatal blow to this game i believe is a minor bug. because space needs to be treated as more of a minor thing, and the emphasis should be on planet creation. in the advertising. thats what makes this place unique, its not space, its not playing a 3d planet like econ game.. its the ability to make your own video game. lets target the mods
I've got xebec running again, with some 8192x8192 25% quality jpg texmaps. it looks pretty incredible already. pretty much done with the b-dats, a few more things need to be done before i can call it a go. so, zaroba's right...we need some more good looking planets to show off in the new advertising videos. that should get the mod's to start snooping around. once xebec is done, i can work on getting the server manager so i can run the pizza delivery planet wes and i were working on. as well as my NR training world with a tron theme.

Hey. I think part of the problem right now, is having nobody ingame to help. I've been sitting on zion today for the last hour or so and 3 people have been in since then. I helped one get a job at an oil drill, so we have oil now.
Anyways, the point im trying to make is that we can make a million worlds, but unless we have some active people helping and playing, people will just keep coming and leaving. I don't really have the time to play or even feel like it, but just sitting AFK on zion does help a little, so I will do that.
I could help with the scripting on any world if anybody needs the help. Just let me know. I'm going to try sitting on zion more often now, to get more people here, so you can contact me there.

Hello everyone. Been a while since I last visited. Sadly, no new updates. I will probably log-in soon to play a bit, see how the worlds are progressing.
I would really like to see more updates to the game, you know? And I agree, this game can be hugely popular if we targeted the right communities and showed off what we can do.
Has anyone done any work to advertise the game? If so, how? I think we should come together and really advertise the game. This game has potential, but so far it just isn't cutting it.

Whew, that has been a while. Didn't think I had been around that long, haha. I'm 20 years old now. Ahh, I so miss Sabarada. I loved that world... Haven't found one as good yet.
Kinda cool to see people still around. We may be a small group, but we've been sticking with the game. Albeit off and on, haha.

yay
I appreciate all the sentiments in this thread - I do think there is (surprisingly perhaps) still a bit of potential left in this old beast yet ; certainly i think it still compares well to most other free games around atm.
A few worlds littered about certainly can't harm. (If you want these set up on SM drop me a line..).
My advice would be to take a couple at a time.. though i've got nothing against little 'throwaway' novelty worlds like a maze world, I think it'd be easy to go for quantity and miss out on the quality. We all know it takes a lot longer than you might think to set up a good world these days, especially if its including nice scripts and/or cutscenes etc.
I really like the idea of themed worlds like a 'western world' - would be nice of course if we could get it looking really unique and stylised.. we need some more good modellers . Even without that, if enough effort is put into things like scripts, settings, the map and music etc, i'm sure we can manage something nice. If you make progress on this (particularly if we can get some nice wild west-style models), i'd be quite up for putting in a bit of code to do some specific things - some particle effects or control/gameplay tweaks perhaps ... I'd love to be able to ride up to a wild-west saloon with a usable interior
Also like the idea of a delivery mini-game as we discussed a long time ago.
Couple of side-notes while im here :
- I'm currently workin on a new vers of Aramathea, with the intention of capturing the core, old, a-tractor-style gameplay (i.e. a house, a bit of farming, a bit of trade in order to get enough food to keep your character alive (and your fuel tank full) ) but making use of some of the newer bits of tech available in later clients.
- With regard to the generally small number of people about at the mo - in some ways i'm not too worried about that, right now. The website is currently practically invisible in internet land, meaning very few newbs are coming in. Its not hugely difficult to change that, but I don't want to do so until I think the game is ready. One big concern is scalability - we need to make sure that if a bunch of people do turn up at once (which tends to happen if any proper 'marketing' goes on) that the system doesn't fall over. Also it means making sure the initial user experience is better (something i'm working on now) and that theres a good variety of quality things to do.
And wes.. yeh.. thats a big thing... getting people to stick with a rather random free game like this one depends just about as much on what the community is like as anything i can do with the code. I've seen you in action on zion and i think it makes a huge difference, so thanks very much for that!

I'd like to add on the "more complex world" topic.
There still are people at the moment working on "complex" themes. Just got to look for them to find them (ie, Stimutacs with Xebec, Mishka with Vert.., Jemrada with Sabrada, etc..).
But yes indeed, there comes a moment where quantity is more readily needed than quality. Right now the game needs a boost in world numbers. And the more complex themes still in development aren't going to do that job just yet.
In the mean while, to fill in those spots, simpler concepts with lower development time might be needed.
Once we have a good amount in quantity, we can look for the quality I say.
For now, Stimutacs is doing wonders on Xebec (literally), I'm working on my own theme myself. Sabrada is being rebuilt. So we've got enough complexity in development.
As for the "visibilty" of the game. Some people came up with the idea in-game the other day of making a facebook page for TU. I've seen it done, not too hard. But like Mit says here, better wait for the game to have stable foundations.
And a note to Mit: When you're around, the game sparks up. Not surprisingly, but there has been an influx of new and old players since you returned.

i like the idea too, which is why i started a delivery world :pMit wrote:Also like the idea of a delivery mini-game as we discussed a long time ago
i think i'll put it at the top of the list of worlds and concentrate on it until it is done.
depending on which method i use for the script, it could easily allow literally thousands of delivery missions. the map has 21 towns, and will have a few scattered things as well like farms. just doing missions from each town to every other town yields 420 missions. but toss in different cargos (being vehicle dependent) and you'll have cargo type x 420. could also toss in cargo sizes and different time limits to multiply that further.
theoretically speaking,
21 towns each with a mission to the 20 other towns = 420 missions
add in maybe 50 different cargo types and that 420 missions becomes 21,000 missions
if different time limits or delivery values were added, it'd multiply that 21,000 even further
I keep an eye on this game as it used to have some good fun worlds, i havn't played in a while and havn't checked out the current worlds so i don't know if one exists atm but what a lot of people loved early on (back when it was just a list of worlds and no space) were some of the worlds hedgehog made. While the last one he made was massive and didn't have enough players to work well, he did make some brilliant team based eco combat worlds. These worlds made you want to log in all the time, check your side was doing well, attack the other side if you could and build up your own side as much as possible.
if a few of these types of worlds were brought back then you could capture the attension of a lot of players.

This is horrible... T_T
I came back after disappearing in 2006 from the game, and from what I see, the game is basically dead, seeing as most of the site isn't working, including the help section, this game really does need a more active community, I think we really need new admins for the site, who will be active to fix bugs, help advertise, and get the site back to normal.
It's really confusing to play for the first time in years, seeing as the help section is dead. Plus it seems there's rarely anybody online on the game.
