Can someone explain why a game that is so damn fun can be so dead? Ive played on and off for years now. If TU was alive like it used to be I'd never need another game ever again. A year has literally gone by since ANYTHING has been done. I know Mit created this game, and I know what its like to have kids and being busy and stuff. BUT If you ever loved this game you created, PLEASE turn the reigns over to someone who will keep this thing going. I mean you created a game that people really do love, people gave you their time and in a sense, loyalty. The least you could do is keep this game up. Or let someone who can do it. This world really is going to sh#t in real life, it would be nice to not let The Universal go to complete sh#t. Hopefully someday, somebody will read this.
I know ppl will say, "it is up and running". but without an active dev team the community doesnt flourish. It's a shame, because for a time the community of players on TU really were all I had in my life to keep me going.
I still remember 9 years ago. I stayed home sick from school, I was in 11th grade. As soon as my parents left I fired up the PC and searched for an hour until I came acrossed this little game called A Tractor. I named my guy Wildbill, started playing on apocalypseland 2 owning some kind of farm. I was amazed at how you had such freedom in the economy and how you could drive around the countryside, And I remember the first time I watched the A Tractor sunrise(which actually inspired me to start watching the real sunrise.) I had tons of fun getting yelled at by "Device" and I had a great battle with Blackdevil. I was hooked, and I have played on and off when life has let me ever since. I know to some people its just pixels and code, but for me, sometimes when felt like I didn't want to be in this world, I let A Tractor be my safe place.

if i might quote fooli regarding the 'turning over the game':
i know what you mean though, it is very empty and its a shame. its been empty before, but not like this and not for such a long time. i miss the good ole active tu days when there were lots of players as well.
despite how empty the game is though, its still getting new players visiting it.
on zion, there's 53 currently active. looking at the top wealth, 9 players that are listed are long term tu players that are active. this leaves up to 44 new players having logged into zion in the past week. i've looked at the *stats on zion several times over the past year and its always around 50-60 active. so a very rough estimation/assumption is that at least 40 new players are visiting the game every week.
there's just no way to keep them here.
Fooli wrote:Obviously there's not too much life in the game at the moment. I can tell you mit is working on some new stuff that promises to re-scale and hopefully re-energise the game, in (somewhat) its current format, but also a (somewhat) different one.
I don't think anybody's ever going to "take over" from the current state of affairs. It's mit's pet project, and I imagine it'll always stay that way. Just my opinion, of course, but that's about as close as we'll get to mit's opinion until such time he manages to remember there's a forum on a website he ought to pay attention to from time to time. C'est la vie. Sorry

As far as the open source stuff goes. yeah, he did, but we dont have all the code to the game and cant release any updates without Mit. The partial opensource stuff was mainly setup to see how well anybody could work on the game.
We really need another world up in newbspace if we plan on bringing back players. I wonder if GK would be willing to let somebody use Drellis' slot.
