I've been gone from this game for ages. Now I came back and I noticed Zaroba is running his world(s) (and possibly others, since I remember he was doing hosting for some other people as well, even for me at one point) on his home network.
Now I'd like to propose two things. First of all, I have a server (it's just a VPS, but it'll do) now on which I may host some The Universal worlds. Second, it's running Debian, so I'd like to opt in for becoming the Debian maintainer of the The Universal world server packages. (I'm still registered as a world owner.)
I'm wondering: How many resources does a world server need? Does it eat a lot of memory or something like that? If people are OK with paying one or two euro's a month (depending on the resources it needs) for hosting such a world server, I can do a few hardware upgrades if that's needed. Also in the end, if people like the idea, I may get a dedicated server hosting only The Universal world servers. What do you guys think?
Hosting worlds on a "real" server
I just noticed I couldn't try and find out myself, because the console server on Linux seems to be too old (glibc problems). Is DeVice still around to update and re-compile the packages or can I do that myself?
If I've got the sources, I could compile this into a nice Debian package which would set up the server with a simple dpkg -i theuniversal-server-0.nn.mm.deb...

Mit is around. Avaibility.....don't really know.
