Vector : Coming Soon
the problem with your reine 1 was, that yes it had all these things.... but they weren't clearly accessable, it was all built around fighting, with the mines ect, yes it was good, posibly a lil too in depth. i certainly never saw the hornball, i found you island hard to get around and so that was the main problem, but when i went into vector ages ago when it was basically just the map, it was all laid out into clear seperate area's which means people know where to go and how to get there, your was clearly way to advanced for people with my IQ
yeh, rule one of gaming, don't make it hard just cause ya can. i tend to forget just cause i'm, buildin it doesn't mean anybody's gonna understand it
another thing i'm trying to sort out for myself though is the timing of player apathy. it's such a huge issue with nearly all mmorpgs, most of which get around it by hosting events and adding items and stuff presumably. it seems like you can almost time it to the minute here tho - around the 30, 60 and 90 hour mark of playtime, players seem to want a break and look for fun on yer average econ island. they've got just enough cash that they're ready to bill silly, and start pining for crows / hornball / etc.
i think it would be neat if island owners actually had some tangible, empiracle usability data with that, where we could apply it to running a more entertaining island. as in "okay it's week three, i need to either place a hidden item here, or add a racetrack there, or..." etc
i dunno, just seems with all the various island types and ups and downs, we've not gotten any real hard idea of why most isles dry up at a certain magical time, and then why, in some weird cases like tunbridge, they can even reignite months later. sure there's the general new island rush, but it seems like there's other factors in there.
praps now that we're close to three full systems of totally different planets (surely magrath, vector, zoric, supercars and reine have about as much to do with each other as jack and crap), it'll become more apparent, and all the planet owners can use that to keep things entertaining across the board.
anyway, total tangent, but that was kinda the idea behind the earlier comment, not any big shock that reine-1 was more than a bit floppish....rule one there: landmines bad

rule 1. yes they bloody are
i agree hedge we need a more definitive way of working out what makes islands die...
also i did have an idea like what u said of adding stuff to the island as it progress's. i have an idea for when/if i get a world, basically i will give the whole island rewards, where everyone has to group together to get a reward... like build a ornament that costs like 10k and get a race track ect.
or maybe like 300 buildings and u get fishing. or just like oh its week 2, this week you get a hornball pitch...
i think this will increase the popularity of each of these miniture games, since they will be nearly implemented to that island so when they are bored they will be like this:
blaze> god im bored
zaroba> me too
hedgehog> oh i see the owners stuck a hornball pitch in... looks fun, anyone for a quickie?
zaroba> sure nothing else to do, and haven't tried that out yet
Blaze> ok, what the hell, nothing to lose
leigon> hey i'll play but only if we can have a race on race track 1 after
or something like that
