Here is my problem with the world editor, including screens:

I go to general options but I don't know what's wrong there, anybody help me please?:

Then I minimize the world editor (little world icon appears on the task bar). Then I go ingame and find this:

And it's like that all the time ( No connection) , I don't know the source of the problem, can you guys help me out?

You should probably search the forums and read the world owner's guide (and first time guide). All of these questions have been asked and answered many times before.

Quickly, then:

"Directory containing your game clients" - that should say Clients

"Client to use" - that seems ok, though mine has the full location of galaxy.exe ( so something like c:/program files/theuniversal/galaxy.exe or wherever you've installed the game to).

The fact you can't see your world connected could be any number of network-related problems. Most likely, you haven't specific the right IP address in serverconfig.txt

I use an inalambric connection.

I've posted this problem a few times before, but no fix so I've followed those posts. I posted the problem again to include the screenshots... maybe it's clearer this way?

Ok, as long as that /programa thing is the right location, that's fine. All it means is, when you click the little world icon, it launches the game. That's it :)

Moving on to your connection problem - as above, it's probably because of your network settings. Not your ISP (assuming that's what you mean by inalimbric).

The galaxy server can see that your world is on your IP address, so that's fine. Your world is talking to the galaxy.

Couple of things you can try.

1. With the world running, launch your game client. Do you have a "Your world" option at the intro screen? Try using it.

2. Can you land on the world by crashing into it - even when it says No Connection?


And if they don't work... are you on a LAN? You might need to sort out some network routing if you are..

Still get the error but let's move on then.

Um..

Have you installed the world in your main universal directory? If not, uninstall it, and do it again. The unregistered world should be installed to /theuniversal.


If you are on a network you might need to do the following:

- create a file called reroute.txt in your /theuniversal directory
- add a line to that file, as follows:

your.external.ip.address:your world's port=your.internal.ip.address:your world's port

(eg: 212.84.93.82:8192=192.168.0.3:8192)

- Save the file.

- Then create another file called reroute.txt in your /theuniversal/clients directory.

- Add a line to that file, as follows:

your.external.ip.address:your world's port=127.0.0.1: your world's port

(eg: 212.84.93.82:8192=127.0.0.1:8192)

Save that one too.

Then run the world and try to connect to it. Make any difference?

for the globe icon, you need to switch the things in the boxes.
also, what goes in it depends on what you want.

If you want it to just open a regular client, use:
for the Directory: c:\program files\TheUniversal
for the client to use: Galaxy.exe

however, if you want it to open a local client that is already connected to your world,
which is really quite handy since you can just use the normal link to get in space and have the globe for a quick connect to your world to avoid space:
for the Directory: c:\program files\TheUniversal\clients
for the client to use: theuniversal.exe

You find your external IP using winipcfg, one of various websites that'll tell you, or by Googling "how do I find my external IP" :)

Right now it appears to be 82.158.219.231

Your world's port, as you'd know if you read the manual, is specified in serverconfig.txt. You've got two options:

- leave the PORT= line blank. In this case, the world server will choose a port automatically. That's fine in some circumstances. Bad in others.

- specify a port number in that line (eg PORT=3754). This can help if you're having to deal with a complex network setup. The only thing to watch for here is that you don't choose a number that's already used by other programs.

Did I mention that you should read the manual? It's all covered in there...

Ok, anyways you told me to create this file in /theuniversal directory, but in which? The game folder or the world folder?

You shouldn't have a separate folder for your world. The correct way to install the world is simply to install it to your theuniversal root folder. So you should end up with something like c:/program files/theuniversal/universalworld.exe.

In which case, the instructions I've already given you will work fine. One reroute goes in the root folder, one goes in clients. You might not need both - it depends on how your network is set up. Just have to try it and see.

But there are two seperate clients, I can't put them both in the same folder.

That file which says "TheUniversal" is the world client is in. I installed it in the root directory and it installed itself in that file, if I put it in the same file it will overwrite the game client.

Anyways I created the reroute.txt. But no change, is there anything wrong here? :

Perhaps it's a language thing, but you're not very good at following instructions :)

1) You can't set up a reroute using port 0. You'll need to specify a port number (and make sure it's the same number you put in serverconfig.txt)

/edit - I'm having my own understanding difficulties. According to the manual it is possible to do this... however I'd recommend using a specific port number, it makes life easier in the end.


2) Apart from that, the second reroute looks ok.

3) The first reroute you've got it the wrong way round. It's EXTERNAL IP first, then internal. So it should be 82.158.219.231:portnumber=192.168.0.11:portnumber.

4) I don't understand your problem with having two "clients". You won't have two clients. You will have one client, and one world server. So Install the unregistered world into the main universal folder - NOT ITS OWN FOLDER. I can't make it much clearer than that :)

I'll need more time to work on this. I installed it in the root folder, and now there is a seperate folder with a separate client IN THE ROOT FOLDER. Like in my screenshot above.

Give me some time please to see if I can sort this out.

Ok... don't bother doing any of the reroute stuff until you've got the world installed in the right place. Then start again :)

Actually I've just tested the world installer, and to some extent it's not your fault. The installer creates its own /The Universal folder, just like you've got. So the correct install location would just be /program files. *flog mit, stupid thing to do :)

In theory you could just copy the contents of your /the universal/the universal folder into /the universal - it shouldn't overwrite anything important but maybe make a backup of the main folder first, just in case.
