i seem to be occasionally having this problem today too. but without the crashing.
only just started a few hours ago.

except, instead of crashing, i can click ignore, go into space, and then the client will hang for about 30 secs, then kick me back to the start menu. all is fine after that.

this seems associated with the space guild stuff

data/images/temp.bmp is the guild logo image.

mm.. all very curious. I haven't been able to replicate anything like this (whether joined to a faction or not), and having looked through the code, can't see anything particularly horrible that might cause problems like that - even if the download or file access fails in unpleasant ways.

seer, is this happening to you continuously or just occasionally?
either of you able to find a reliable way to replicate it?

If I log in and enter the uni in a system with a guild member in it, it goes nuts. Otherwise it's fine. Don't know what happens if I infimp into a guild system yet.

i left the aif faction and it stopped. but today when i went in space and saw somebody with the image it popped up again. now its showing up even without listing anybody in the player list in a guild.

it doesn't happen right when opening the client, happens when clicking 'continue game'
Image
usually followed by a 'Large Tick'
the temp.bmp file its creating is a 18x12pixle bmp thats 592 bytes. deleting it has no effect, client just creates a new one.

on a side note, its now only popping up the error and not lagging or hanging the client anymore.

mm, would you mind making a backup of your clients folder then trying a fresh install, and seeing if that stops it?
Another option you might want to try first is deleting (or moving) everything currently in your Clients/Data/Images folder.
Let me know if either of those changes anything

renaming the folder and creating a new empty folder stopped the problem.

client still created the file, but it is 728bytes instead of the 592.
replaced the original images folder, copied the larger temp.bmp over, and the problem continued. deleted all the FactionBanner####.dat files and it didn't pop up the error at the first start up. but that it did for following start ups.

the factonbanner files created in the empty images folder are also larger then the ones from the old images folder, including the new ones created after deletion.

Just to add info to it, I accessed the faction list, NR and USSR's record (and image) loaded successfully but when it loaded AIF's (I know AIF is the next one by renaming the Images folder), it crashes (not crash proper, but the abort, ignore, retry dialogue).

Deleting the FactionBanner00X.dat files clears up the problem entirely. The AIF image probably didn't download properly or was corrupted the first time I encountered it.
