I guess in these extreme conditions you will need to dump cargo and hope you have enough $$$ to buy more cargo in a system that can sell and buy cargo.

You can travel a great distance empty, mapping your systems out getting an idea of what does sell and what can be bought.

I always jump ahead, checking the trade report (and then going to the station to check to make certain that the report is spot on - sometimes it isn't) then I go and buy goods and jump to sell.

You'd sit back and think to yourself: "That was dumb. Next time I'll plan ahead." Then you'd dump your cargo and infimp/fipro back to civilisation.

As you get further out the chance that there won't be any uridium available increases significantly, and towards the edges of the galaxy it can get quite difficult to ensure you have enough. A good strategy is to buy it whenever you find it, so you always have a full tank. Having a back-up plan (such as the abilility to mine fuel from asteroids) is also sensible if you plan to spend long periods of time wandering around the far-flung reaches of the galaxy.

everybody has a fipro (3rd butten down)
it acts the same as an infimp, except theres a set list of destinations.
