Installing New Version

Post by Ephialtes »

Im having trouble installing the new version...It wont let me delete or replace Atractor.exe! It keeps saying the file is in use. I am not running tractor or anything like that and i even tried restarting then instantly trying to delete it, but it still wont let me...This is most probably me but does anyone know how to stop it from saying it is being used?

Just in case, has tractor been set to read-only?

No...but what i want to know is why it is fiddling with my operating system? Why does windows feel it is necessary for Tractor to be running?

I had it doing that to me too. I opened up my running windows applications using control alt dealte, and ended task atractor.exe that cleared it up

But what is it doing starting up with windows? For all i know this could be anything...Keylogger? It could be downloading information from the PC. I want to know why it is starting up automatically and what it is doing?

there was a previous bug where tractor left active processes after a failed connection i.e entering onto a 0.1.22 with a 0.1.21 client.but as far as i konw that was fixed in 0.21.1 assuming you did the initial upgrade to 0.21.1,

it is also possible for a program to remain in memory after windows reboot if the reboot was not carried out correctly in this instance windows can try and auto recover the workspace you were using before what it views as a crash.

thirdly shared dlls can also have an impact on the status of a program, as some software locks DLL files that are being usd from a program which can leave a dependant process active.

As for this being a Keylogger i feel that if you are that paranoid about losing sensitive information over the internet you do not d/load anonymous titles such as Kazza, Imesh and all those others which scatter your system with viruses, spyware adaware etc... rather than consider this of a game where you know that you can discuss with the developer in game or on the forums.....

erm if your still haveing trouble i think i know the reason.

if you have the island server and its set to "open on startup" (or summin similar) then it wopuld start when your computer has booted, i think this was installed so islands can autostart when your computer has crashed... if you get me :?

Put it this way: If you type "Keyloggers and the people that make them are GAY" and your PC reboots, you've got a keylogger ;)

Firstly, if you're running an NT system or higher, open up the program manager, and look in processes. Any programs that are running will be listed here. Any sort of reboot, even when done incorrectly, will terminate executed program files (even if left in memory, the process could not survive through the bootstrap and windows startup).

However, if a registry key or service is set to automatically run Atractor.exe, rebooting will not help (both of these are highly unlikely, though). Best thing to do:

1) Download AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and run it.
2) Get AntiVirus software, or if you have it already, run a full system scan
3) Shutdown Windows (not just reboot; for good measure)

A keylogger isn't very likely to cause this, but don't use anything that even seems like it might contain something unwanted.
