yh bounty hunter would be a good ship BUT why not diff class pirate and poolice ships like for example, pirate, police cruiser, pirate police scout, pirate police flag ship etc each pirate and police could have basicly the same stats only say the pirate could have more speed armmour n cargo adn the policecould have more armour longer stardrive range and pob 4 sets of lasers instead of the uesual 2, tht sort of thing n it could be built in tht a police ship cnnot attack a person who dnt have bounty or who is not alreddy shooting etc, just to make sure pirates dnt fly round in police ships itd need some more ideas bt it sounds good to me o.O what am i saying of course it sounds good to me otherwise i wouldnt of said it, hmmmmm im gnna go eat tht revision guide

What would be good is some ships like this;
Avenger - Standard Defense, Low Counter-measures, Standard Missiles, Low Armor
Disciple - Good Armor, Standard Defense, Good Spead, Low Counter-measures
Terminator - Good Armor, Good Defense, Great Missiles, Good Counter-measures
Crusader - Good Armor, Standard Defense, Standard Missiles, Low Counter-measures, Great Spead
Ships like this would make the game have a variety and make it less of "the ship has mostly everything good" like the alien megascout and galcruiser. Of course, names are just something i've made up and to be honest, are crap. But with more ships are different price ranges and abilities, the game will be more interesting to play, i hope there's going to be more than 5 eventually though, its good to see new ships beginning to be designed

er... right :)smithy953! wrote:yh bounty hunter would be a good ship BUT why not diff class pirate and poolice ships like for example, pirate, police cruiser, pirate police scout, pirate police flag ship etc each pirate and police could have basicly the same stats only say
This one ship has taken me about 3 weeks "fooli time" (about 4 days solid, real-time) and it's a) not finished yet, and b) I didn't have to design it, only copy someone else's design. I'm sure I'm slow compared to a pro modeller, but still... it all takes a loooong time, and I've got stuff to do ya know :) At the last count we had, what, 15 ships? And, er, 1 part time 'artist'. So not too bad really :)
Well, yeh. The more the merrier, and we'll add more as quickly as possible. See above, but also... a lot of players, it seems to me, would be happy flying about in different coloured cubes, as long as the cubes had the right stats. Me, I want to be flying about in ships that don't look embarassingly like vehicles from a 1980s Atari ST game :) So at the moment I'm concentrating on pimping up the ships we already have, most of which I built years ago when I knew even less about modelling than I do now. I've also had to learn the rudiments of texturing since hedge left... it's just a slooooow process, and the quicker some of you monkeys learn how to create 3d content, the better!Gavinbaisk wrote:What would be good is some ships like this
J/k. Well mostly ;)
On a slightly more serious note, you make a good point about ship balance (albeit obliquely). At the moment we have a sort of ship progression where you have two basic choices - fighter or trader - and if you put the time into doing the quest, then all of that goes out the window because quest ships are significantly more powerful. As we refine the combat and the trading side of the game, I hope to see people choosing to stick with "lower" ships (with the ability to buy funky add-ons) because they're suited to the role they want to play in the galaxy. And/or because they like the look of them, etc. That'll come with time. And hopefully when mit agrees to the quest ship changes I'd like him to make..
Until then, back to the Magrathea shipyards I go :)

Man, you really need to proofread your posts more carefully :)
The 'error' is a common one, discussed in many other threads on the forum. The model converter needs interface.dll in its install directory. For some reason, mit never includes that file in the model converter download. However, it's the same one that the game uses.
So, all you need to do is to find interface.dll in your game directory (it'll be in the main install directory - eg, program files/the universal/) and copy it to your model converter install directory. Or simply install the model converter to the same directory as the game.
If you're just starting out modelling, I look forward to seeing your first completed models sometime in 2009 :p
