Replace the !find command with a ship upgrade. Have models and textures put in place like the asteroids so that there is a "sensor" for each star system. The ship upgrade would read the sensor's from nearby star systems (maybe similar to stardrive levels here?) and to make the feature more enjoyable, make the sensor's logs readable for a fee (larger than trade report) when your up close to it. That way, !find command isn't been used but those sensor's give names and ship types of players in nearby star systems. The logs could even give information like if they had bounty when in-system and if they had a enlarged hull mass. Nothing extensive like what weapons, what cargo etc.
What ya think?

I third that. Here I is trading in the not to safe zone to make a living. Knowing that a player who wants my hide or cargo, has to just type !find lensman. This is not good, this is bad, very bad in deed. I know what I will be doing for now on.
I is a Sandgroper catch me if can. Evern with the !find.

Wouldn't the sensor system i mentioned fix this? I mean, if you knew what the person was trading or where they probably are around, you could scout around nearby star systems and check logs to see where they went. Plus, you could follow them from afar AND it would make pirates search around instead of just finding some players and blasting them/following then blasting.kb32a wrote:How about having the ability to buy a "tracking device" in stations instead of having !find. For..say 200k or so. I believe w/o some form of tracking system altogether, piracy will become very rare.
Plus it'd be interesting to view the logs on the sensors, find out who was in and when and maybe make a note of those who frequently enter the system with cargo, you could then wait for/follow them and get some loot. Basically, I'm saying that it'd would bring some interesting new features and tactics to the game, you would know if there was players in nearby systems but not beyond, you would have to fly around to find good cargo loot and the universe would seem a lot bigger.

1. Yes, this isn't really a bug report :]
2. I agree, !find is too powerful now space combat and politics are taking off
3. I think some sort of scanner item would be cool for the system you're in
4. Elite-style, the other obvious add-on would be a jump analyser, so you could tell where people have just stardrived/infimped to
5. Both items would need to be fairly expensive, and have some limitations (it must be possible for people to escape/hide some of the time)
6. we'd also need a big glowy cloud left behind when a player hops out of the system, something to point your jump analyser at.That'd be nice ;)

I wouldn't make it exceptionally high because since all these clan wars have been taking place, I've noticed that traders are better off while clans are fighting. Lets face it, SR and AIF are fighting while traders are shipping stuff around. Eventually, i think it'll balance itself out so pirates and traders both get the jump analyser at similar times.theseer wrote:Might have been dealt with slightly but...
A item that allows !find to be used in its current state that sells for a high price wouldn't work because [AFAIK] a lot of the current pirates tend to be .... rich.
Nice ideas btw

if u want to balance out the sensors or !find than make it so traders know when they have been spotted so that they can be ready (like selling off their last cargo or landing on a planet) 4 when the pirate comes. but so that the trader doesnt have an unfair advantage, the pirates name isnt listed or by chance the scanner 4 the trader fails

Being able to scan the distance of your stardrive seems like a good compromise to me . This also stops lazy traders from using the find to learn ur good trade routes, especially when like me you trade for high prices on the other side of the gal. Took me a long time and a lot of exploration, why should others learn it in half an hour with find
If it is gonna b removed, can it be kept and just used to find someone on a planet, and to see if they r online. I use it to see if my friends are online, and what planet they are on. This would in no way affect the space side of things.
Oh and with scanners like mentioned, clans could sit in different systems and set up triangulation points. Now that would be fun, and encourage more cooperation between groups of players
