Mit, if ur worried about it being to artificial, make A.I. police that automatically kills anyone who fires a weapon. then the pirate wouldnt be able to just log off if the cops r on him, and he probably wont be able to kill the newb. and if the pirate's game "crash's", he comes back with the cops still on his tail. That would make it more realistic in a sense and safer for newbs.Mit wrote:i dont think that just disabling weapons in the starting systems is a good solution - Its an artificial mechanism, and id much prefer a cleverer and more involving one.

i have been reading this "heated" topic over the past few days, and since i have only been playing the game for a matter of 4 weeks or so, i would like to share my opinion. i read the guide before i started engaging in trade ( and i suspect i am one of few), so i knew that there were risks in trading without having shields or a way to defend myself. i like many new players had the misfortune of running into pirates almost immediately, but because i read the guide i knew not to put all of my money into cargo and therefore havent had any problems building up credits after making a mistake. i dont like the idea of having a weapons ban in place because i believe it would take away from the excitement of the game. maybe i am not as sympathetic as other players are, but if you have read any of the game guides or looked over the website it clearly states that there is risk of being shot when playing this game.

i would like to add that while most certainly do not agree with players attacking a new player before they have had a chance to build up some experience and credits, i also dont think that if a new player attacks you that he or she should be considered"innocent", and that we should defend ourselves, though we shouldnt go overboard and keep shooting them down. as an example: i attacked vinnashal within a couple of days of playing the game (not very bright, i know) because he had what looked to me like a very enticing bounty. to make the story short, he shot me down rather quickly and i learned the hard way not to go around attacking players, even to collect a bounty, without having experience first

while in the middle of another long trade run, i had an idea.
make ships that are rentals so that instead of buying a ship and spending all or most of the credits a new player starts with on a ship to trade with, they can temporarily use one to make a limited number of trade runs with to build up credits, maybe even incorporate shields into the rental to prevent them from being killed in the starter zones. this might allow a new player to gain experience, and not be discouraged from continuing to play the game because of someone killing them right off the starting line.

This thread is on FIRE i agree with alot who say weapons should be banned in fed space ( not all but some of SR members are pansy me off by killing noobs ) i know it was wrong when i killed noobs back when i was doing it i didnt know at the time ( but i do now ) i was killing the chance of new players having a chance to make it in the game i dont wont ppl to think SR is all bad im not going to say i dont pirate or other SR members dont pirate cuz we do ive found a good trust worthy friend ( CoolBiker )who has calmed me down alot everyone knows this game is awesome and we need more players and ideas to make the game better for us all ( if anyone is killed in safe zones E-mail me at Vinnahsal@hotmail.com or Vinnashal@Yahoo.com and ill try my best to kill any player who has killed you ) ( NOTE if you have cargo other than metals,water,minerals,computers- noobish cargo i cant help you ) and another thing SR rules are on the SR website www.SpaceRaiders.4t.com if you find any ... -Vinnashal
Not a bad idea at all shorty. Having a limited number of cr's to get first. Say the price of a cargo transport plus the shields. Say 300 cr's, 91cd's for cargo transport and 195 cr's for the sheild. Plus some of the good players will tell ya that you can buy a transport for 25 cr's plus what ever else they need.
You may have to do something about the prices in the stater system 225. The prices have been short, to a point where I had to mine in the not so safety zone, just to make a good living. ( The only down side was that I was in a station when the station bug bit me. I was blown to bits 2x within a mimute. Some players take advantage of this. ) Plus this may be a way of getting some exp in using lasers for when they go out into the not so safety area. As for missile attackes well that will come with exp.
Yep not a bad idea when you come to think about it.
