I originally tried The Universal a while ago, back when a new player was presented with biplane world (what happened to that?) but I gave up because of RL time pressure. I've recently redownloaded the game.

Since I had this username still availible on the forums and I'd just reset it's password I assumed I could use the same username and password in game. No dice, apparently it has a seperate account system. So I tried this username and all my usual passwords and it still wouldn't let me log on. I guess either someone else has the account or I chose a password that seemed appropriate at the time but which I can't remember.

No great loss, so I created a new account - Preceding Dark and use Xiphias for the display name. I logged on for a night and all went fine. Then I screwed the app up somehow and had to wipe the system clean of it.

Reinstalled and got it working again. Entered the preceding dark account details again. I try to log into a world I went to before and get a message along the lines of 'password may be incorrect or username may be in use on this world' which I guess means I've accidentally created a second preceding dark account with a slightly different format (with/without underscore/capitals etc.).

None of the accounts have much in the way of money/goods so the easiest thing would be to just create a completely new account and write down the details. Since there are rules against multiple accounts though I thought I'd better get this lot sorted out first.

The email address for all of them EndlessWaves /\T gmail.com, although it's possible the first one may be something different (it's unlikely as I used that email for this forum account made at the same time as the original account).

Having different galaxy, chat and forum usernames is a pain from an admin point of view too. Ah well.

Right, as I understand it:

- You've got one galaxy username and password - this is the one you set up to join the game for the first time, and what your client uses to log into the galaxy whenever you run the game

- You've got a galaxy nickname, which you can change as often as you like using the F1/File option in the client.

- You've got a galaxy chat name, which is the same as your galaxy nickname

- You've got accounts on each of the worlds you join, where your server record on that world is the same as your galaxy username, but the display name in-game is the same as your nickname. Each world server maintains separate accounts.

- And, you've got your forum account, which is completely separate and doesn't affect the game at all.


So, where does that leave us: there's a galaxy record for "Xiphias", which I assume is you, and it doesn't sound like you've got problems simply running the game and connecting to the galaxy. There isn't a galaxy record for Preceding Dark. For future reference, we can retrieve your galaxy password if you've forgotten it (and if you provided a valid email address with your original registration). Also for future reference, galaxy accounts may be recycled (ie wiped) if they are inactive for 30+ days.

If you're having trouble connecting to a specific world, and that's because you have multiple accounts and/or you've forgotten the password, you need to post with specific details of the world you're having trouble with: the world owner will need to reset your account.

Best thing to do is post separately for each world, and make it clear in the post title which world/what the problem is. There's a reset request sticky for just this purpose.

Yeah, these are galaxy accounts.

There's no PrecedingDark username? That's odd, I was logged into it yesterday. Could you send the galaxy username password for the Xiphias account please? Assuming I registered an email with it.

Ah yes... I got the format wrong. So there's two accounts you have, by the looks of it.

Ok, passwords mailed. There are separate email accounts associated with each galaxy username: if one of them isn't you, someone's going to be mightily confused when they get the email.

If you get both (ie both accounts/email addresses are yours), could you reply via email and we'll wipe one of your accounts, which ought to make things easier. In theory it shouldn't be possible to have more than one..
