0.50.2 news

Hullo.. A few things to note about the new client..
1) You no longer get shields by default. (Without shields you are vulnerable to damage by lasers.) Shields will be available for purchase from space stations in the next couple of days. The graphics have been updated in space so you'll be able to see clearly when you're hitting someone's shields, rather than doing them damage.

2) World owners will see a new 'World Editor' icon on their panel when they're on the world. Various bits of this work nicely (adding & removing trees, walls, texmaps etc), but theres more bits not done yet. (The landscape editing doesnt persist, for instance). Please consider this section 'alpha' - feedback welcome.

3) Also for world owners, a new Landscape -> Auto Texture Generation Mode (3) has been added, which autogenerates hi-res textures on the client when neccessary. This is the recommended (and new default) mode for creating your landscape - it can produce nice results relatively easily and will have the most additions & support in the future.

Other improvements in this version include some optimisations that should make connections to the chat and galaxy servers a lil more reliable, theres some new stuff for loading textures in the background (so theres less stutteriness in game), theres various additions and improvements to the browser that mean the user guides etc are a bit more friendly, and um.. theres probably other bits i've forgotten.

The galactic radio is much improved for me now. When I used to use it I would have to reload the game if I changed stations. Now it works without doing that.

Anyone else have a problem with messed up textures when landing on some worlds, or missing pieces?

I've noticed some roads on imperial not loading. That's about it for me. You probably have done this, but try relaunching a few times, because some things don't always load the first time.

If you're a veteran of this game, my apologies for mistaking you for a noob

The downloads seem to be down at the moment. Gamespot, 3dgamers and Fileplanet all have it but they all require (free) registration and I know 3dgamers and FP have waiting lines to download.

Is there anywhere I can download the unregisterd world installer?

I deleted it thinking I might have messed something up, and I wanted to redownload it.
