The edge of a system

Post by karumpa »

So im in Cirrus Minor going left.... in the direction of of m-25, I thought I could use my L4 to get to m-25 but I cant, I invested most of my money and now im off my system map screen, well im soo far to the left that im off my whole screen, on the galactic map it shows that the system's edge overlap's m-25 but seems to me I should be in the next system

I have been flying for soo long...

Edit: I am now 50 minutes away from the nearest planet.... thats 50 min backwards....
when i bring up the system list, I do not see an X...

You can't fly from one system to another using normal space. You have to use your stardrive, infimp drive or fipro drive. That's because, uh.. the distances shown on the galactic map are short if you're stardriving, but relative to n-space travel they're absolutely enormous.

Additionally - I think - the further out you get from the centre of a star system, the weirder things become. Space gets distorted, and distances become a bit odd... as long as you can target the star or one of the inner planets, best bet would be just to fly back there, even if it does take an hour. You'll probably find it all pops back on screen when you're not looking. Or you'll fly into the sun.

Moral of the story: don't fly an hour outside the outer planet :]

wouldnt best bet be to use your finite drive to put yourself back in orbit of a planet?

the funny thing is.... I could go only 4 parsecs with my stardrive, but shouldnt 2 strait hours of flying would bring me within stardrive range...

Edit oh... and none of the planets accessible buy what I have in cargo...

Well no, that's the point: when you're in a system, you're in that system, and that system only. You can't get any closer to the next one - they're all discrete starsystems only accessible via stardrive/infimp/etc.

I could try to come up with another fantastic if slightly implausible reason why that is, but - as far as my limited understanding informs me - that's necessary to make the galaxy possible (and is just like any other space game). If it was one continuous galaxy, and you could fly right across it in one go, you'd need several hundred thousand megabytes of ram or storage or something to make that possible - because then the game would have to store, and track, every single coordinate in that massive system (with enough resolution to allow for combat etc). By splitting it up into discrete systems you only have to deal with a small amount of space in each one - it's just multiplied many times.

As for planets not buying what you've got in your cargo bay: er, well yeh. You need to plan ahead to be a successful trader :)

ya, it was late and I thought it was a possible route.

I know what your saying... but shouldnt it bet once your passed a frontier, it should be the other systems frontier...

First of all, Smithy, please don't bump old posts.
Secondly, you could just stardrive to the system you're already in - it resets your position in the current star system. You do lose Uridium doing so, though.

First of all, the page it's on. If it's on page 3584254958, you should NOT bump it. If that doesn't tell you enough, you can take a look at the post date.

but...don't we WANT players to use the search to find older topics instead of posting new ones? :P

besides, whats the big deal about kicking old topics?

Agreed. Complaints about bumping old posts aren't necessary. If you find a post and have something relevant to contribute, by all means do so. The only thing that's really irritating is pointless posts, whether to a new topic or old.

vdz, with how much you go around pointing out others 'pointless' posts.
you make more pointless posts then everybody else combined.

stop spamming so much.
