any advance on the number of stargates yet mit? :)

also - any chance of some BIG FAST ships - we have fast (cobra) or big (Stellar freighter) - but nothing big and fast

or maybe - add-on engines or the space equivalent of nitrous?

or am i just being greedy

^_^ I do alot of trade but the things i find horrible are;

1) I mistakenly buy a cargo ship (AKA Loseing 80-10cr)

2) fly into a sun

2....well thats my own fult but it looks cool when yah do it.

as for 1; i really thing that if you have a ship and you buy another ship you should get a trade in price or keep all your ships in dock or somthing or mabye just have a ARE YOU SURE thing before you buy ships....=( Cuz i have done this twice after long huls and loseing that much cr when you only have 130ish and just start getting going is a real setback....

hey molok
welcome to the wonderful world of space trade :)
stick with it - it gets easier and faster relatively quickly. Have are read of "Damon's trading tips" - either scroll back through this topic or click on the "archive" link at the bottom of the news section on the website - there's some good stuff there for trade beginners.

There's a list linked to the homepage for a planet list.

some of the stuff on the list is a little out of date :)

plus you wont be able to trade with most of them without a l24 strdrive at least - stick to the home systems until you've got a bit more cash behind ya - wouldn't want to see you having to dump cargo cos you can't get back with it

yeah - you can infimp around as much as you want to and explore - haven't seen any pirate activity - yet :) - not sure when the piracy side of things will be up and running properly. just dont buy cargo outside of Tau/cirrus while you only have l4 stardrive. that would not be good

Hello space traders,

Since i've more or less seriously started playing space trade, I've added the ability to export raw trade data from space stations into a flat file, for easy import into my spreadsheet software.

If enough interest arise, and Mit like the idea, I may make it join the actual source code of the game (maybe needing an item you can buy before enabling that feature would be a good idea too).

Better give an example. When I go to Mechzone space station and display the Star System Trade Report screen for 0.1 cred, my client put this in a file on my disk (except for the header line I just added by hand for your information) :

Code: Select all

Update time;Star System number;Star System name;World number;World name;Item number;Item name;Qtt available;Sale price;Buy Price

I then just have to import it into openoffice and merge it with my previous data to be able to plan juicy trips :)

nifty idea :)

could come in handy especially for the items with reasonably stable prices.
Will it cope as well with unnamed planets in the outlying systems?

you use openoffice - will this info blend as easily into an excel spreadsheet, if the macros are formatted correctly (me not a spreadsheet person, so forgive any wrong terminology).

got a useful wee exel sheet going that Chezzie put together for me - input price and planet name (purchase and sell points) - calculates amount you can purchase (dependant on your curret cash & cargo hold size), cash left over, cost to fill your ship (at variable cargo hold sizes) total profit on what you can carry, in addition to potential profit if you were able to carry a full load.

finding a way of combining what you have both done would make this a very valuable trading resource. Magic has version 1 of Chezzie's spreadsheet, a more basic form, and Chezzie may be "coerced" into passing on the newer version - I can try anyway :)

Yeah excel will deal with that kind of file easyly - this are '.csv' files, standard for importing in any spreadsheet software around the universe.

Unnamed planets yeah it's ok with it - thas one of the reasons why I make the world numbers inhere along with names, so we can differentiate between unnameds.
The other reason was planning for possible use in a database, if anybody has free time ahead they could make a nice dynamic website with that kind of data.

that would work - just punting it into a spreadsheet, taking into account the various explorable systems and unknown planets, would make the file to big and unwieldy to be viable. dynamic website would be a much better way to go.

now we just need a volunteer.....

Wow thats useful I need it...

btw it seems I can't reach all the stars, like the cluster in the SW-corner with the xerby co system in it...or is it reachable via stargate/wormhole

would save trees too :)

yep - xerby co is just out of reach for now

the explorable universe currently consists of about 25-35% of the total map at the moment.

Am hoping that some new wormholes appear in future patches :)
