models used in most pc games are exteremly high poly, like 30k+ polies
would easily mean 10mb+ downloads when entering a world and seeing the model for the first time.
but, on a side note, i've just added planes to the download section of http://www.tuwr.net

ummm.. 30k poly models in a pc game? unlikely :]. games like unreal, hl2 and quake dont use that many (or any) more polys than we do, they just use em very efficiently and texture em extremely well.
The models to avoid are those ones on free sites that arent intended for realtime rendering at all. Some of those do have truly ridiculous poly counts.
DMN and SRF sound like custom model formats, similar to our 'ATM's. Unless this game's website specifically says that their models are public domain and free to use in other projects its almost certainly not a good idea to steal em.

theoretically, any model from any game could work.
its just a matter of finding a way to convert it from thier format to this games format.
which from what i've seen in all the different games i've played, isen't easily possible since they use custom formats which only the developers have access to, or in the case of games that are/can be/have been modded, the converters are designed to put models into the game instead of taking them out so that players can make mods for the game and add extra models for whatever reason.
