Really dumb question...
Okay, I just downloaded this today and I can't seem to be able to enter the game. When I try to log into the game it says that the name is invalid and that it must only have alphanumeric characters. It does... I'm using one word with all letters. No spaces or any other crap like that. Is there something I'm missing or am I just plain stupid?

Ok. In the interests of clarity (and cos Socom's comment might be a bit misleading...)
When you first run the game, you're asked to choose a username and password. This is your main log-in: you can't change it once you've chosen one. If you choose a name already in use it's supposed to tell you so. All this user/pass does is let you connect to the galaxy server - it's your galactic log-in, if you like, and it's tied to your IP address. If you suffer a drive failure or something, and you can't remember your user/pass when you reinstall, you won't be able to connect. I only mention this in case you have previously installed the game, and have somehow forgotten you did so :)
On top of that, once you've got a galactic login and a record on the galaxy server, you have a nickname, which is the name you're seen as and chat as (etc) in game. You can change that as often as you like.
Sooo...as there is no record of a killswitch in the galaxy at the moment, the failure isn't because the name was in use. Are you sure you've allowed any firewalls etc to permit the game to access the net properly?
Could you tell me exactly what you're doing, and exactly what it says? If you can remember, can you tell me exactly what happened the first time you run the game?
It's possible there's something strange going on with the gamecode, but normally when this sort of thing happens it's either a firewall issue or it's because someone's re-installed and forgotten their password or something.
Looking at the galaxy server logs, someone's been trying to get in for a couple of hours now, but their IP is quite different to yours.

Um, okay, what happens when I try to log in is when I fill everything out it an error pops up saying...
"The user name you have entered is invalid.
It must be at least 4 characters long and must contain only alphanumeric characters."
I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing or not, but if there is I'm gonna kick myself.
I apologize as I'm sure this is a bit annoying...

It was a dumb question anyway.
Um. I'm stumped, sorry: will need mit to advise. The only other thing I can think of is some kind of corrupt install, or download. Could you try uninstalling everything (well, everything game-wise), and downloading the full version from this site, installing and trying again?
I have to go fall over now. Real-time tech support is really tiring :)
