- vbulletin would help as its designed for heavy loads were as phpbb is designed for no more then 2.5k. vbulletin can optimise and back-up easily up to 300k users with 3k of them online at that point. So good suggestion who ever did that. And before u moan about the cost when i work my way out of debt i will make another hefty donation which could pay for it.
not quite sure how you came to that argument freako, have you looked at the phpbb site? it has over 210k regustered users and works fine.

its bit of a pointless argument anyway as we will not be moving from phpbb on this site for as long as i am maintaining it, we have coded lots of custom hacks into the forum software itself to ensure that its authority based permission and usergroups can become a functional element throughout the whole site

Also the backup hasn't got anything to do with which forum software you use, it's MySQL that dose the backingup. It's more of a server resource thing, same with the number of user's it can support, a crammed server with many sites hogging the resources will hinder your forum, whereas a fast dedicated server will run much MUCh more better with large numbers of users

it seems that the sql crash busted some of the topics.

like the Space Trade topic. click page 3, it says "No posts exist for this topic" but you can still goto page 1 and 2.

the reset request topic was like that too, was about to make a new one, but the problem seemed to go away by itself once i deleted some old requests from it.
