Guides

Post by Malkiah »

Here is what the Contest has generated so far....we at TUM hope to see more come.

In the last week or two we have had some excellent guide submissions and here they are:

Simple Guide to Space Trading by VDZ.
The Big Guide of Stuff (Universal Edition) by Kirby.
Sabrada Guide by NeoCat.
New Player Guide by Hell.
Zoric Wealth Guide by Hell.
The Republic Guide by Malkiah.

Oh, and check out The Universal Stats. Its run by Leigon and it allows you to grab the stats of your character from any world it currently supports. Perfect if you are unable to access the game client!

oh come on. just post it in the contest topic.
if people wanna see what it is, they will look
if they don't look, then they obviously don't care about the contest anymore.

its spam.
if thiers 1 topic about something, thier doesen't need to be 2 or 3 more

thats just like 3 players coming in and posting reset requests in seperate topics when thiers already a designated topic for them to go into.
or somebody posting the same thing in seperate forums just to get more people to see it.

like you said "if i make a new topic they are bound to read it cuz its new, but if i stick it into the CONTEST topic, which almost everyone has read and hasnt been viewed or posted to in awhile"

nobody has viewed the sticky topic in a while because everybody has read the current posts and thiers nothing new to read. if you toss it in the sticky topic, then people will see a new post and read it. if they no longer care, then they wont, just like they wont read the new topics.
it also saves time. why make people click around tons to find all the bits and pieces fo the contest (which could fall a ways down the page unless you spam and 'kick' them) when all the bits and pieces could be edited into the main topic about it and a post added mentioning that new stuff was added.

if your gonna post a new topic about every little thing in the contest, why's thier even need to be a sticky topic :P

I usually don't see if there's a new post in a sticky topic.
The regular topics are suddenly on top, you see that. But the sticky topic stays on the same place, and won't be noticed.

except for the orange icon that marks any new post in any new topic.
you actually don't notice new posts in topics unless they move to a different place on the forums?

what if the same 5 topics get replies in the same order for several days?
do you think that nobody posted in them despite the icon keeps turning orange and the last post date changed? :P

Ok, it works like this:
I see from the color in which forums are posted.
I open one.
I skip all stickies and announcements, because nobody posts in them anyways.
I check the top-most topic, or if it doesn't interest me, the next one, until I find one that has a last post that I've already seen.
Then I go to a different forum, or simply go do something else.

The sad fact is, many people, including me, just automatically ignore stickies. This popular habit comes from the many forums where stickies are used to keep old but vital posts up which nobody posts in. Its a strange mental mind block.

but still the point of being is that text and words even if classified as spam annoy you and drive you insane. admit it.

look in the sticky rules post:
"12. Spamming is not allowed on these forums. This includes any form of posting expressly to increase your post count without providing content or posting multiple topics for the same discussion. The moderators will use their discretion to determine when a post is not intended to begin or contribute to a community discussion, if a post is considered to be a spamming post it is liable to be deleted by the moderators."

thats why i'm against it.
if you'd like, instead of actually talking about it with you, i could just delete the topics.

figured i'd just mention it to you instead of just deleting it right away since your a longer player.
but i guess talking wont work when it comes to you.

Zaroba, what is so wrong about making a new topic for new news?
Are we going to die?

This is useful, I can't see why it isn't allowed.

Ummm...Who is Zaroba talking to? He seems to be mumbling to himself.

But yes, stuff should really be in one topic because it gets hard to find stuff.

ghelna, i'm talking to vdz and malk. since they seem to enjoy spreading stuff out and think stickys are useless (even though malk wanted a sticky for the contest)

i'm not the one that made the rules. mit and magicfinger did. ask them why its not allowed.

how is it new news? its more news about the contest. it could easily be kept in the same topic so that players wont need to click around tons or search for it to read it.

why are you so against just keeping one upto date, time saving topic?
it could even be an unstickied one since you think nobody reads them.

hmmm "Guides at TUM" had nothing to with anything i have posted yet, why it was deleted ill never know, AGAIN it had nothing to do with anything, and was posted under Help. In fact just totally delete this and anything that has anything to do with TUM, i will no longer post anything here, ill just continue what i do in game sense it seems to work better and i dont get a HEADACHE from zar, wait my bad zar still continues to argue with me in game about the forums. Plz zar for now on just dont talk to me about Forums. TUM or TU, i dont want to speak with you about anything to do with News, Posts, Forums, Community blah blah blah  :P
