what are the reg.dat files for?
they're required for people who wish to host more than 1 island on their computer. As you've already noted, running 1 is time-consuming enough, so they're only really required by the real 'freaks' ;].
Generally they're available to anyone who asks and who has a genuine need for more than 1 island. (e.g. such as Zaroba, who hosts a number of islands for other people)
