I wont get too involved in this, but at the least a bug DETECTION system should be in place, to proper compensate those for losses, saying tough sh** really doesn't make the game that fun in the short run for newbies :(

Nigel, I think it's a bit late to not get too involved :P

By the looks of it, the 'he' was just a mistake on leigon's part rather than antagonistic, so no need for a large outburst. The majority of the the playerbase is male, so it's the first assumption - I'm not saying that makes it right, but it seems to just be a misunderstanding.

I doubt that someone with powers would actually do this on Gyruss - I don't think we have anyone like that in the tractor community.

Another thing to throw in - is there anyone else who could have got access the the computer, gone on tractor and royally pansy it up? Just wondering, this has happened before.

Its not the death so much, as the knowledge, I have one day to live, then I get to start over with nothing again. That is the real issue to me.

Its a nice thought, but no, I don't think that would have happened. My home server carries a fair bit of confidential data, so I am usually careful to secure it, and the workstations tied to it. Besides, not had anyone here in the past couple of days to touch the setup, and my firewall shows no successful intrusions - hardware firewall, so I do not believe that is at fault.

However, my IP is dynamic, and varies over four class A ranges, so I suppose it would be possible for anyopne on the same ISP to pretend to be me? Universal uses no password-access system *sigh*

nah, ip woulden't do anything at all.

only thing i can think of for appearing in france is because leigon made the map bigger. changing the map size doesen't change players positions. so if you were 1/4th to the left, and 1/4th down from the top, and the map was made 4 times the size, you'll now be 1/8th to the left and 1/8th down. basicly your positions stays the same and the map just stretches/shrinks around you.

i logged in right after he made it bigger, and i was in france too.

actually universal uses username and password plus ip to generate a unique id which i beleive is held in the cfx file in the games root folder... obvioulsy we cant create completely secure connections because of dynamic ips and the fact that some people use different pc's to login with, however they will still need to know your username (not your nickname btw, as these can be seperate) and your password to login as you.

Ok, thank you legion, for resetting my account. Only one problem at the moment - I respawn in the sea, to the south-west of Eire. Apparentlythere is an unfinished town marker in the water here, not getting damaged. Unfortunately my vehicle gets damaged as soon as I log in.

I cannot access Gyges at the momemt as you are recoding something, and it interferes with my modem connection - same thing happened when Mit was updating Iridis, so I am not worried, just an obscure conflict with my driverset.

Ok you should be somewhere else now...

Sorry if I offended you by saying "he" ... the net is a unisex feald and it is hard to tell who is male/female straight off... so I call everyone I don't know "he", better than me saying "that person" or "thing" don't you agree?.

[skip] About the death spwarn. The only way I can think that you got yanked down to france is if you died more than once and someone else re-spwarned you.
When you die you die... You see the death screen where you died....[/skip]

WAIT A MIN!

I dubbled the map size! of corse! let me go tab out that junk :) so anyhow like I was saying you spwarn where you die... your death co-ords where stored... I dubbled the map size you co-ords stay the same and you apprer somewhere else... in esance france expanded to where you died.

Anyhow check in game I reset you and granted you a boat and car to make up for the trouble thats happend to you.

/edit

I will grant you a boat and a car when your account exits again lol.

if this is still happening, or any of the world owners get an occurance of players appearing to die randomnly again, could i get an export of the .isl sent to me pls and i'll run it thru the debugger.
In the meantime I'll have a look into adding a few extra bits of info on the server logs that might help identify what the server thinks its doin whenever a person dies.

p.s. leig, if you happen to have an autobackup from the time after morli left and before she returned to find herself dead, i can have a look further into it thru the debugger.
